Yeah, the last couple of days I have been smelling fuel too. Dropped it off at an Indy shop this morning to have suspension refresh done and he smelled it too. He said it is probably the HPFP, my car is an 08 335i with 57k miles on it.

put it on a lift and looks for wet spots... might have to take off the covers...

their fuel connections... on the splash guard the covers the transmission in the middle of the car....

the fuel connectors are push lock.

Fuel filter is in the tank.... Shouldn't smell that

Not sure what you could be smelling on the driver side. Except the connection underneath the driver side floorboards.

Older e70 is common for the plug connection on the pump burning a whole through the fuel pump allowing it to leak out.

Any specific fuel level it happens at ?

Pull up your back seat.
The lid to the fuel tank on my drivers side was cracked. Found fuel on my left muffler.

Had the same problem you did, I was actually leaking something by the driver side rear well. Had to have the dealer replace the whole gas tank.

Wow must be all going out around this time. I had smell for a while thinking it was from the valve cover but its isnt leaking at all. Tracked it down to the driver side rear wheel area but still didnt know where it was coming from. After I took my car car to the track the smell was getting bad inside the car. Found a thread on here and pulled out the rear seat to look under both sides and the driver side hole was filled with gas. Like everyone else I had a hairline crack that shot fuel out when the engine was running.

I cleaned it up depressurized the system and slopped epoxy all over it. After letting it cure i fired it up and it still was leaking. I had no choice but to go to the stealership and get a new fuel filter/regulator assembly. Not fun at all replacing that thing with no special spanner tool and a nearly full tank. It doesnt leak anymore but still trying to get the fuel smell aired out.

Gas smell me too

+1 here. For last several days or weeks I've been smelling gas.
I followed my nose and it's the driver side left rear wheel well...more to the front side than top. It's so raw smelling as if there's open container under my nose...but can't see it looking up from floor.

Anyone know what the part numbers I need to order? Is it "fuel filter regulator assembly" the name for it?
Frigging BMW put plastic parts on fuel assembly right above exhaust pipes

Did you get it replaced under warranty? I saw YouTube guy showing the cover spitting out gas while the engine was idling. I'm gonna take off the seat and investigate this but it should be warrantied. My garage is full of fume right now and don't feel confident with such dangerous feat.

I just had this problem on my '08 e90. It was the regulator/filter housing that's located under the backseat on the drivers side. If you want to inspect, just pull the bench out (just snaps in) and remove the round covers and look for gas. The plastic housing cracks over time. It's an easy job. Took me under an hour to replace the item in the link below. I recommend renting the fuel pump replacement tool kit from Auto Zone to remove the rings on the tank. It made quick work of getting the rings off and reinstalled.

The fuel pressure regulator assembly under rear driver side seat is most likely leaking. Remove seat, remove 4 nuts and lid and take a look. If leaking this is what you'll need.

Fuel Leak

My shop says that I need to have this are part replaced. $660. How long did it take you to do it? They (the shop) said it is a real pain and a two person job.

Done by myself in my garage. Part was $131.
Done in about 4 hours I think, it's been a while.
It's a bit pain but it's doable for home mechanic.

Add me to the list of people who just started having this problem 2006 330i. Fuel smell tracked back to the rear drivers side wheel. Google search brought me here. Going to pull the rear seat as suggested and take a look. Thanks for all the posts and info guys

Easy to replace. Mine was leaking here. I used the bav auto fuel pump ring removal tool. But you can rent one from autozone for free.
