No bouncing off rev limiter?

This X6 kept revving his N55 at me so i was down to race cuz im guessing he was. Light turns green and we take off. I shift from 1st to second right at redline but I have to turn left into my neighborhood. I just kept it in second so i can brake then turn away. I lost power right at 7000rpm. Theres no rev limiter? I shift at 6800rpm usually and its my first time feeling it die out like this. Did I over rev it LOL? Cuz it just lost power at 7. Maybe i went over 7? Isnt it suppouse to bounce off the limiter like other cars? 6mt 330i 200,000k miles

The photos are cute... but back to your original question -

There's a rev limiter, that's why you lost power. It just doesn't sound like a straight piped Honda at the drag strip in the burnout box. Try revving it in your parking garage and you'll hear it.

I ran into something similar while merging onto the freeway. My music was loud and I aggressively accelerated to merge into six lanes of 75MPH traffic and felt the power cut before I realized I should have shifted. The inherent balance of the inline 6 is so smooth that it doesn't feel like most engines at 7000 RPMs.

IKR ITS CRAZY IT JUST LOOSES POWER GRADUALLY. Yesterday at the track i had the same situation. I should shift at 6700rpm but sometimes im about to brake and go into a corner so i just keep revving it out so i dont have to upshift then downshift.
