Morning gents basically last night when driving to my girlfriends the dpf warning light has came on so just looking for some advice the cars a 2009 e92 325d which i bought 5 months ago from bmw and has only done 38000 miles which I thinks quite strange for it to come on at this early on. Will the light go off once I've done a long journey or do I need to take it to bmw for them to clear it as its still under warranty??

Also recently I've been monitoring the water temp via the hidden menu and it seems to get up to 89c so find it strange this has happened.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi,
the coolant temp on mine jumps to around 96 when it is regenerating.
38K miles does seem low for a blocked dpf, but it could have done 35k in short 5 mile journeys and never regened I suppose?

It usually sits around 88/89c I've only ever seen it at 92c and that was when I was sat in traffic.

I got the car when it was on 33k miles so could of been used for only short trips. It's just a surprise for the dpf to start going at that sort of mileage

I'm booking it in tomorrow at bmw as I've still got 6 months warranty on it.

Best thing you can do is decent quality fuel and a good blast to clear it out. You will find some manufactures are going to start charging for regens soon as the car is functioning properly, its just not being driven right

Right I thought I'd update this and maybe look for some advice. Basically I took the car in to cooper bmw at teeside at the beginning of the week from them to look at and they've tried to manually regen the car twice and to no pervile the dpf is blocked to no return and because its not covered by warrenty a new one is going to cost in the excess of £2k.

So a couple of options. Take it to back to strastones Tyneside were I bought the car originally from (barring in mind I've only had the car 6 months) and let them try and sort out or I'm I wasting my time or should I get it removed and mapped?

Remember from February the DPF is part of the MOT.

If they detect its gone, you've failed.

Gut out the insides out of the DPF, so its still physically there, and get a nice remap!

I'm actually secretly hoping mine fails soob, so i have the justification to do a dpf removal, straight through pipes and a remap

I have also dont the above, removed the filter chopped it open and gutted it. Welded it baxk together ground off the welds and then had it mapped. Been no problem at all since, also theu can only do a physical check not a test on it. Thankfully.

I had the same ordeal just after i bought my 325. I am no expert and the advice i received might not be totally correct. If the warning light is showing then it is over 75% full, after this point the car will never try to regenerate regardless until the error code is cleared. The car will also need to have all glow plugs working and the fuel tank to be over half way full to regenerate. My car had the glow plugs replaced, but there was an issue with the cylinder 5 relay that still stopped a regeneration. I did not buy from a main dealer, but the garage i purchased from bought a new DPF from this company http://www.cats2u.co.uk/35552/Diesel...r/BMW/325d/3.0. It comes with a 2 year warranty. This might be a good alternative if you do not want to remove or empty the current DPF. You will soon start to notice how sluggish the car is, and the lower MPG as the DPF is full.

Get BMW to sort it as it is covered under your AUC warranty. If you get no luck, then give BMW UK a call. You shouldn't have to remove the DPF or get a remap to solve the issue plus if you go down this route then you could end up facing other potentially costly issues.

If you find someone with INPA and the appropriate cable for your car, you can start a regen by constantly clearing the codes and going on a drive. It's worked for me and a few others in the past.

Little update on this so took the car back to strastone a week ago for them to find the car had a faulty thermostat so they replaced that under warranty and the car instantly felt a whole lot better to drive less lumpy. Now on Saturday night just gone the dpf light has reappeared but the car hasn't last any of it's smoothness. So I'll be rebooking it in sometime this week.

Dpfs clog up for a reason. The thermostat been replaced is a good start. Did you notice your car used to regen 300mls or so (before ur issues)? Has this interval recently come down? Have you been doing lots of sub 10mile journeys for the past few 1k miles?

Replacing a dpf will only treat the symptom. For a car of your age it shouldn't have blocked up and I'd say its got a fault somewhere. Finding it is the horrible bit. Good luck.

I have a 320d & I've no idea how you can tell it's doing a regen, the only time I know is if I have TorquePro switched on because the car drives exactly the same. The way I can tell is that the dpf temp goes up, usually to about 600 degrees & I have an alarm set to go off at 450 degrees. Equally, the only way I can tell regen has finished is the dpf temp dropping back to normal, around 300 degrees. The car doesn't get sluggish, there are no clouds of smoke & even the mpg doesn't drop noticeably, water temp goes up a little but I still need TorquePro to know that too. Amazingly, & annoyingly, most regens I've known about have taken place while driving round town, doing 30 mph & stopping at traffic lights, it's even more annoying when I've just done 150 miles on the motorway & it chooses to start up on a B road 2 miles from home It's a pity BMW didn't provide some way to initiate or postpone regen, within reason.

I say fuck the environment, gut it out, code it, and enjoy the extra power. Maybe a nicecremap as well.

To be honest I've never really felt the car do a regen before but if the thermostat has been faulty since I've owned then that's probably why.

If the car wasn't under warranty I would just get it taking out and mapped.

A little update, I took my car back to bmw because light came back on they forced a regen updated the soft ware and tested the back pressure and said it's within the tolerance and said the dpf was fine but for some reason the back pressure would spike to three times the amount for no reason apparently the computer and the technician can't find why the car was doing this so it's been 12 days without the light coming on and low and be hold it's come on again this morning.

So I'm stomped what to do?

Surely there must be a reason for this happening.

What's peoples thoughts on this?
