Ah okay. I made an appt Wednesday for this. But I think I'm just gonna take all the piping out that has holes and just put solid pipe. I have Catless dp's and if it sounds anything like a muffler delete. I don't like it... So I'm leaving the h or y pipe* and resonator

Once the primary cats are removed, there is a good chance it will start to drow/rasp! This is the issue with most exhaust system out there

That's what I was thinking. I had crazy drone and interior rattle with my Catless dp when I did a delete. That's why I want to leave everything in there except the perforated hole pipes. Without the packing I wouldn't think the muffler walls would do much of insulating sound to the interior lol

What about the PE. I've been in one with ctl dps and the drone wasn't that far from stock. Wasn't bad at all whatsoever. I was shocked lol

Seriously bro? Ive been driving modded cars since 1990. NO DRONE. I had a G35 with HKS mufflers, those droned like hell. Not this setup. It has to be because it was made for this car specifically. It is deeper, and sounds exotic when going WOT but it tones down a bit after 20 minutes or so. Probably because the car is warmed up.

Im pretty happy with the results.

And I had straight pipes on while the mod was done, for a week. The drone was unbearable. The modded exhaust sounds nothing like it.

Without the perfortion, the muffler itself is useless, its basicaly a straigjt pipe, theres no difference if the box is still there.
There needs to be less perforation and less of the packing materiel in the muffler, but there cant be no perforation, or its basicaly a muffler delete.
I think half of the perforated pipe should be straight pipe and remove half of the insulation.

Lol bro, you made a custom muffler, how is that made for your car?
We cant say for sure how the pe is made without someone cutting it open, but I can assure you its alot quieter than your setup.
Youtube 335i muffler delete, sounds exactly like your car.

It'll be interesting to hear. My car sounds more like its catless again since doing this, though I did cut the secondaries. I asked my buddy to leave the H pipe in but he deleted it. If yours sounds better, then I might have him reopen and do the same. It definitely doesnt sound like a muffler delete though, I just went through a week of that. My ears still are buzzing.

Seriously bro?

Yeah, the stock is made for our car, isnt it? I would think thats why the PE sounds soooo good. I altered it, and it sure looks like BMW modified the oem design to get the PE. If we ever get one open, I will do whatever is missing from mine. And yeah, just had a muffler delete on for a week, this is 20X better, and much quieter.

If youre at a meet this week (if you are from NY), pass through and you can listen in person. Almost impossible to catch the true sound on a phone recording.

Are you going to keep full insulation? I believe tomz removed all the insulation inside the muffler.

Tomz did remove it all and basically did a muffler delete inside the muffler. Which sounds nice. But I don't think it's close to the PE. What my plan is; cut open the top, remove all the piping section with the perforated holes and put solid piping in place. Use half of the packing since it might help with unwanted vibrations (if any) and it will help with heat transfer to the car/trunk area. Then the only thing that is my issue is the little muffler or resonator on the driver side, but I have a feeling that's used for more space for extra exhaust flow to go back thru the mufflers h or y pipe when the "flapper" is closed basically giving more space to alleviate the extra pressure. I'm gonna take a look inside to see exactly what's in there. If what I think is correct I'm leaving that as it is bc it won't cause any difference.

The PE has no perforated holes at all inside the muffler on the piping. So I think this could be it. My fingers are crossed. Ill have pictures and videos of course to confirm it all. I need someone with Catless DP's in the wi/IL area to meet up and compare sounds. Hopefully it's the same then everyone will save money and time and be extra happy hahaha

So basically it sounds like youll keep the H pipe in place and keep a litte more insulation compared to what I did. I am definitely interested in the final result, though I would have wanted to compare them in person. Good luck!
