Help. 07 335i won't run right, overheats

Hello all,
Kind of in a bind. Took my wife and 2 kids to the doctor, and the car ran there fine. Teenager stayed in car listing to music for an hr with accessories on. Came back to car tried to start. It started but started getting all these crazy codes and one of the codes was the battery along with abs, transmission, tire pressure. So I thought maybe it was the battery but ohms meter says its at 12.5 so that should be ok.
Whe I tried to start it again, it ran really really bad. So I pulled off and it was overheating because the cooling fan wasn't running either.
To me it sounds like maybe a relay or maybe it's in an extreme limp mode?

I'm not sure. Where to look at this point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your symptoms sound like a battery issue others have had, where they have drained it by either not driving it or left accessories on. You could either pull the battery out and have autozone or parts store do a deep charge. Or if that is your original battery, you can replace it . Look up getbmwparts which is tisherbmw . Also take a look at the eye on the top battery. The indication should be green if good.

The fan running and engine overheating sounds like waterpump but all this happened after you let your battery run down so you would think the battery is the culprit.

I could be wrong but I don't think tischler ships batteries.

Had similar issues. It's your battery guaranteed. Have it charged, clear the code and go from there. If the battery is dead, open your wallet. Roughly $500 for the dealer to replace and recode the battery for you if you don't have the means to do it yourself.

Just a quick update. Ive taken the battery out and Im charging it and as soon as I get that done, Ill update you of where I am. It looks like it was completely drained (tested with ohms meter). Im hoping that when I get it back in, all will be good to go but my concern is that I may need to register the battery using Tools32. I have all of the programs to do it, and Ive done a little coding for turning off the corner lamps and a few other things but I may need help with this since Ive never don't it before.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Definitely sounds like a bad battery.

You don't have to register it, I've installed a few new batteries without coding or resetting adaptations.

You ABSOLUTELY have to code it/register it. If you are putting the same battery or a new one of the same specs in, you just register it. If you are changing ANY specs of the battery, you have to code it as well.

You can put a new battery in without doing anything, and it will run, but it will not properly charge your battery. It will charge it like it is an old dying battery and you will be much more susceptible to a battery explosion. Others on the board have had it happen...it was NOT pretty.

Last thing, you have an 07, and so do I. I was unable to register my battery when I replaced it due to different software issues that are present with the 07 dme. I had to take it to an indy shop to do it. They only charged me $20. So, it might be worth calling around town to see if you have any troubles with the software side.

Update. I charged the battery to a full charge (stock original AGM battery) and then let it set for 6 hours to make sure that the battery isn't being drained by a short somewhere. The battery stayed charged for the 6 hrs it set. I thought that everything was ok because it started, I cleared the weird codes and took it for a drive. It was in the evening so I turned the lights on and ran as many accessories as possible so I can test the altinator. Got back to the house and the battery was drained. So now I'm thinking it's the Altinator. My battery charger has a load tester to test the altinator and I'll be running that test this AM. I'll keep you posted.

Update: So the alternator test came back that the alternator is bad. Fully charged the battery to 13.6. Ran the test with no load and it came back faulty. Ran the full load test with all accessories on and came back faulty again. Turned the car off and checked the battery level and it was at 12.4. Let the car set for another 4 hours to make sure that it isn't a short of some sort, returned and checked the battery and again, it read 12.4.
This makes me believe that it is the alternator for sure. Any thoughts?

test voltage WHILE the car is running

if you're getting <14, you have a bad alternator (or voltage regulator, not sure if our alternators are serviceable tho)

Yes, failed to mention that this was while the car was running with no load (everything off) and then again with full load (everything on).

Im just going to order a full replacement Bosch alternator with a voltage reg.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Ill keep you posted after I get the new alt installed.
