Gran Turismo 5 - Data Logger Visualization

Not sure if this is old but this would convince me to buy a PS3

There was a PC racing game a couple of years ago that used MoTec data acquisition software in the game.. I think it was GTR2. pretty neat stuff, if you could get past the learning curve.

Vaporware.

GT5 was originally slated to be released TWO FREAKIN' YEARS AGO. At this point if it were EVER released I'd be surprised.

I wonder on what kind of epic scale did they screw up this badly.

the moving of the release date is just insane. Now it has been moved to November 2010!!!! (in Europe). I just bought a PS3 as it was planned to be released in March and a few months I could help myself with prologue... now the PS3 is catching dust, as I do not play any other games.

This new feature looks cool, but hell, introduce this as an upgrade, just release the game for G** sake.

I also know a couple of people who bought a PS3 solely on the premise that GT5 was coming out "soon". That was like 3 years ago! In the mean time, get Forza3.. it should keep you busy for a while

I didn't realize the release date got moved back that far. That is pretty insane. I got a driving chair the Christmas (to go along with the wheel from a previous Christmas), and was looking forward to getting the opportunity to use it with GT5. I've been moving through Prologue pretty quick (which I hadn't played much until getting the chair), so I'll probably be ready for something else soon. I'll agree, there must have been a super huge clusterf**k on a grand scale to cause this much delay. I'm starting to wonder if the PS4 will beat it to market (which knowing Sony, won't be backward compatible with PS3 games).

In addition to Forza3, anyone had experience with NFS: Shift? The reviews seem to indicate it is a more GTish game than other NFS games, so I had been thinking of buying that to tide me over. I certainly have no regrets over my PS3, which I've owned for at least 2 years, and has been working quite well as a bluray player, but no GT5 is a bummer.

Pass on NFS : Shift. The ONLY attractive thing about the game is the availability of certain tracks that I drive on regularly. Other than that, the physics engine is inferior to even Prologue.

I heard the BEST simulation money can buy right now, still is Forza3.

Check out Live for Speed. No fancy cars/graphics/eye candies, but I personally think their physics engine is the best out there.

Thanks for the reply, though unfortunately my wife decided to buy it for me as a late Valentine's present, so looks like I'll be playing it. Truthfully, it could be worth it for me to just get more practice on Road America (incidentally, BMWCCA Octoberfest will be there this fall).

I'll def keep Forza3 in mind for later though.

I played the demo of Shift, and also the demo for Forza3, and prologue at my friend's place with the PS3.

honestly, I didn't like GT5 prologue that much, all the cars understeered way to much, but I'm not sure which settings they had on when I played. I still have very fond memories of GT on the PS1 though

Forza 3 seemed very similar to the GT series.. and the cars still understeered until I turned off the traction control and stability control, then it was much better. There is a LOT you can do with this game. Many of my friends play online and have various cars with different setups that race in different "classes". from what I can tell, this is the game to get if you can't wait for GT5.

NFS: Shift was actually pretty enjoyable to me. It's more of a "jump in and race" game. I didn't see any "street" cars in the demo, everything was already race prepped, and I actually liked the driving experience better than F3 out of the box (on the demo at least).

I also got GRID on ebay last year for $20. it was pretty fun as well (especially for the price), And the F3000 Karts are friggin' blast. online play is hit and miss, though usually pretty fun when you don't get stuffed into the wall.

My problem is I rarely "finish" video games, so I don't like to buy them retail, and usually wait a few months to pick them up used.

Maybe it's because NFS : Shift does have tracks that I frequent that made it disappointing. At least in GT4 on PS2, tracks like Laguna Seca and Sears Point were rather accurate, in that the scale of the track, turns, and speed were relative and although the speed was exaggerated, it was a pretty darn good approximation to the real track. On NFS : Shift they made enough changes to WSIR (the only one I tried) that it made it practically un-drivable. I kept screaming "that's not how turn 8 and 9 looks!" every time coming up to it.

Didn't help I had driven WSIR the week before too.
