I don't have enough seat time to judge how it drives but I think the new body makes the E90 look dated and the interior is much sportier and has more features than our cars. The N20 is of course compromised by being an I4 but otherwise it's faster, revs great and gets significantly better real world gas mileage. Other than the sound at idle, the reviews have been very positive about this engine.

Interior on the F30 looks horrible! Otherwise, the M sport exterior is amazing!

I considered the F30 but chose a new E92 instead.

F30 pros:

New model
Fuel economy
HUD (the only tech I would want which I can't get on the E92)
Engine has more pep

F30 cons:

Size
Exterior looks
New model (the HPFP problems which surfaced when the E90 335 came out made my a little weary of getting a first year new model car)

I went with the E92 as it looks so much better, felt nicer to drive (albeit a little slower), and being a final year model should (hopefully) be close to bulletproof.

I find the looks of the F30 to be absolutely revolting. I'll be buying a used E92 in 4-5 years rather than downgrading to the F30.

I really dislike the hood profile on the F30 (not a fan of the E90 LCI front profile either), but the msport line with some mods as previously posted really help draw your focus away from that. The rear 3/4 of the car is gorgeous, if a bit boring.

I gotta agree with Karbon; the F30 barely feels like a BMW to me.

The steering is a joke and as anybody who has been smitten by a BMW before can attest, steering feel is a lot of what makes a BMW a BMW. It's kind of like the disastrous strategy Coca Cola had when they introduced "New Coke" in the 1980s. Not only did they reinvent the wheel for the worse, but they threw out the old wheel so that you couldn't even enjoy normal Coke even if you wanted to. Note to BMW: Bring back the hydraulic steering as an option or supply it as standard on the Sportline and M-Sport trims. Please. Like, right now.

The car also lacks that middleweight champion prizefighter look that all previous 3 series' possessed. It looked cut, nimble, and ready to go from any angle without being flashy or pretentious. The 3 series always just looked "right". Paired down to its significant parts, no less, no more. This look is gone with the F30. Where the 3 series once looked like a well groomed Army Special Forces Soldier in Class As, the F30 looks like a doughy, amoeba-like computer programmer with an untucked short-sleeve dress shirt from Sears. I hate how unrefined the front profile looks. It's like the designers, stymied by the European pedestrian crash test standards, started out with the hood at the ideal height and then just cluelessly piled on more height over the engine compartment without any regards to styling. It looks absolutely clumsy. Also, I'm absolutely perplexed and outraged by that terrible cutline for the hood that cuts sloppily across the front end of the car. This design detail would look out of place on a Toyota Corolla let alone a $40,000 BMW. Absolutely unforgivable. And where are the bulging, muscular fenders on this car? It looks like a FWD Lexus it's so timid looking. Further damning the styling, whenever I see an F30 on the road, I still cannot to this day tell if it's a 5 series or not until it's right in front of me. And I'm not only a car enthusiast, but a BMW car enthusiast! Sad.

I can only hope that the 2 series will be everything I want, basically, a modern E46 in style and function. If not, I have no idea what I'll be driving a few years from now.

I really miss the cockpit feel of the E90 and just the sheer power of the N54. I was out of BMW for a while so my F30 seemed amazing at first, but is nowhere as fun to drive as an E90 335i.

My next car will be something smaller, probably 135i. This car is my daily driver and the family gets carted around in a Honda Odyssey so Im not worried about space. My wife has lost that argument. This is MY car!!

Slightly related to this topic.
After getting F30 as loaner twice before, today I was kind of wishing that I don't get F30 when the lady was checking me in for a loaner for my appointment today. Eventually I got E92 and I drove it happily.
It might be due to very light steering wheel, the new 3-series doesnt feel solid.
Right now, I'm not in for a car change but my next car will definitely be not a F30.

No matter how many times I look at the F30 in different angles...I still prefer the curb of E90. I don't like the F30 particularly the hood.

I stop by the dealer today to give my CA, and SA a bottle of wine for the holidays I had asked the SA what issues and complaints are the f30 having? He told me the the biggest complaint is the steering vibration, brakes dont' bite like the E90, and the car rides too soft. The SA sald the F30 is not selling as much as the E90, when the E90 first came out.

I don't typically post much these days, but I have to say that I do not like the front look of the F30, and the side is identical to the e90. The back is cool, even though it looks a lot like a 5 series.

I guess we just missed the radical awesome change, much like the one from the e46 to the e90. The new 4 series looks promising though.

An yes, as far as the interior, I don't like the way the nav screen is positioned and the steering wheel looks a little cheap compared to the e90 since it is not as 'meaty'.

My taste is universal, BMW should hire me as the approver of final products.

My lease is up in 10 months, at which point I will either get a 4 series or a 535i.

Had a 328 F30 loaner while my E92 335 was in the shop for the wastegates. All in all I wasn't a fan; but as a daily driver the car can make a fair bit of sense. It has the get up and go, relative fuel economy, and felt light, which was more because of the electronic steering. As a weekend or pleasure use vehicle, there wasn't a moment where the car made me smile. There was no steering response, I prefer the heavier steering when driving gets spirited, and the 4 cyclinder engine neither felt or sounded good. My E92 better marries the daily driving and pleasure use than the F30, and for that reason I more appreciate what my car brings to the table.

If my next car purchase is a BMW and the F30 is any indicator of what the next BMW I buy is like, then I'd have to put some money aside for a Porsche to drive on weekends.

Unless MSport the front end doesn't work.
I'll keep my e90.

The rear looks great but I can't get over the front end. I don't like the seam and the "nose."

I have the 320i currently as a rental, garbage compared to my e90.
The handling is not tight as what I'm used too and the car turns off whenever you are at a prolonged start which means when you let go of the brake it turns back on adding an extra second or two to your go time (the feature can be turned off but needs to be done after every new car start). The body and car itself feels really big as well.
I'll stick with my e90, can't wait to get it back.

All these comparisons with the loaner or rental may not be as relevant though. Both my previous e90 and current e92 had/have the sports package which makes the suspension much stiffer than any loaner e90 without sports package.
I thought the loaners were all crap when compared to my car. So it may be worth driving an F30 with sports to see if it makes a difference.

And I agree with all posts about the front end, the seam looks f**king weird.

I recently drove a 2013 Sport Line 335i with the 8-speed trans, and while the steering felt different, it also had several "modes" to choose from. Sport and Sport Plus were the best settings; the 8-speed in Sport mode held the gears when accelerating - decelerating - accelerating. Auto start/stop can be programmed to be OFF as default, so that's not a problem. I don't like the i-Drive display location - looks like it ought to retract or something like that, but it's not movable. Aside from that, the M-Sport Line adds all the aero stuff, M Steering wheel (really nice!) and a few other items.

As I'm looking for something a little bigger than my E92 but don't want a 5-series, and I've decided to go back to a sedan, I've ordered a 2013 M-Sport 335i. It's different than my 07 E92, but it's the right car for what I want now. It'll take a few months to get it delivered, but I'll have first-hand experience to report after then.

Why did you have 3 loaners in just a few months?

Good question.
1. BMW PE installation
2. Brake oil change (every 2 yr)
3. Rain Sensor replacement ( I realized on a rainy day.. this damn thing is not functioning properly).

Could somebody forward this to BMW? I wonder, whether they read forums like this one. This is quite a feedback.

My major turn off was steering. I can live with everything else, but will never buy F30-series only because of steering. As somebody above said, the change wasn't revolutionary, but rather the next iteration. Even my wife can't tell the difference between E90 and F30...
