SWS-8 as Midbass

Hey everyone, I have upgraded my audio system a little while ago and am looking to once again modify my setup to improve sound quality. I have the following:

**Car is a 2008 BMW 335i e92 that came with a logic 7 system**

1. two 12" alpine type r subwoofers in my trunk in a sealed enclosure powered by a alpine MRX-m100 1000watt amp.

2. Kenwood DNX9980 double din head unit

3. Alpine MRP-F300 4 channel amp currently powering the front and rear speakers (NOT the under-seat 8").

4. stock tweeters

5. Stinger Capicator

I would like to add the earthquake sws-8 under-seat speakers as a midbass connected to my MRP-F300 4 channel amp (I will disconnect the rear speakers and have the SWS-8 and front speakers connected only). My question is will this work with my MRP-F300 to run the SWS-8's as a midbass?

Please let me know what you recommend.

I wouldn't recommend it. You should use midbass drivers. Jenherts are a good choice. The kickers are also good.

Will they also fit under my seat and will I need another amp to run them?

Yes they will fit. The jehnerts will fit without spacers and the kickers will need a spacer. I actually have a similar setup as you I even started with logic 7. I have an alpine double din and 2 type r's, and two channels on my xd600/6 stopped working, so I have my rear speakers disconnected. I'm only using the door speakers and underseats.

Okay, I have seen a couple installs on the Kicker SSMB8 with spacers, but how do they compare to the jehnerts? I believe the Kickers are cheaper and a better bang-for-your-buck? Also if I add the Kicker SSMB8 I can connect them directly to my Alpine MRP-F300 4 channel without a problem and disconnect the rear speakers?

I can't say anything about the Kickers, as I've never heard them. But I can tell you the Jehnerts give me great mid bass. You can run either speaker with your amp, just ditch the rears. I think that amp puts out 50w x 4, So you may need to upgrade your amp in the future to keep up with your subs, maybe (I'm not sure what 4 inch you have in there). But it can be done by getting rid of the rears.

They both do the job for mid bass. The jehnerts are higher quality, but they are also more expensive. Yes you can power them with that same amp. Like I said I have a similar setup and it sounds great with just those 4 speakers hooked up. I have upgraded my speakers though.

Okay thanks for all the info guys, one last thing though, can I use the OEM connections that are already under the seat to run the kickers, or do I need new wiring?

You can buy the OEM connectors or not more 150w

You can buy the OEM connectors or not more 150watts max on the old wiring
I thought I heard someone say here once. I don't quite recall if there is a different max wattage spec for the under seats or not.

So does that mean the OEM Connections will be able to handle the Kickers with my Alpine MRP-F300 amp OR do I need to get new wires?

I agree with the 150w I saw that somewhere. With 50w you should be fine with the stock wires.

I don't agree with this. I've put over 1200 watts through 16 gauge wire before, and I'm sure the wiring for the underseats is at least 16 gauge. The wires running to the power outlets in your house are only 12-16 gauge. DC power is another story.

sorry I forgot to also ask about upgrading the tweeters in the front doors that I will be running with my under-seat midbass. Could you recommend me a few inexpensive upgrades that I can place in the front doors of my e92 without modifications?

Also can one of you give me a link to the Jenherts xe200 under-seat midbass?

You should look at the jehnert flatline 3 way kit. It comes with the Jehnert under seats, front speakers and tweeters. Contact Unexpected Creations or Musicar NW.

How much does this kit usually cost and is it a direct plug and play?

If you get it from Musicar NW it is. From anywhere else you'll need to buy the wiring adapters separately. Not sure on the price.

I just got a quote from unexpected creations and the frontline kit is just too far out of my budget. I will be just replacing the under-seat OEM speakers with the Jehnert and use the L7 speakers alone with them. Just need to find a good price on the Jehnert XE200 with acrylic mounting brackets.
