Into the mid 120's: 125.7 mph Trap Speed

Well, had decent Density Altitude weather pattern this weekend, and this morning's Test and Tune had a very slight (<5 mph) tail wind (see flag in video for example wind speed).

PerfExpert pulled the weather as 57.2F, 979 mBar, 51% RH. Dragtimes shows very similar ambient conditions, and gives a Density Altitude of 902 ft (although it says the track is at 942 ft, but I think it's actually 1049 ft... so the DA is likely worse). Good DA, but not great.

The car performed very well on the pavement, laying down back to back mid 125 mph runs. Then I left before I broke something.

Still can't launch the car worth a crap. The video below is the 2nd pass, 125.5mph run, where I tried to launch more aggressively, but the car was slipping and pushing me to the left for all the 2nd, and some of the 3rd gear, sections (it's more interesting to see the car squirm on this run than what's on the first run ... that run had 0 wind and the flag was not moving).

The video was filmed using Torque Pro Track Recorder, and has some of the key parameters overlaid during the pull, which is kind of neat.

Density Altitude corrected trap speed would be a bit better than what was laid down on this day.

The car has has help from a global perspective: Jarek DDE tuning (and Andrew at FixMyVw), Pro Turbo hybrid LP turbo, xHP transmission tuning tool, DWR transmission tune (love the extended rpm's with retained self-shift capability :-) ), Turbo Smart EWG, VRSF stepped IC, Quaife LSD, a local diesel performance shop's welding some custom things for me, and some personally developed modifications for controlling the water/methanol injection and some fueling modifications. Oh, and lots of data logging with TestO (pheno) and Torque (with DWR's PIDs). AND Mik325tds for helping me do some coding of the FRM module, and get my paddle shifters back after an xHP issue. AND iaknown (Lord of the Rings) for his hotside ring adapter for the turbo piping.

This was done without nitrous, still using the original OEM HPFP and injectors, transmission. The only supplemental fueling was the water/methanol.

A big thank you to all the people involved who helped make this possible.

Forgot ... This was a PerfExpert on road dyno pull from earlier in the week as I was preparing for this weekend (lowest "smoothing" setting). I turned the EWG up slightly for a bit more boost. Measured horsepower was peaking at 515 whp. I think the way I measure with this tool is conservative based on the dragstrip performance.

Any chance you'd elaborate on the 'other custom wielding things'?

Pretty awesome. Maybe later this year you'll hit 130mph traps. What was your ET?

Crap, the timeslips didn't load... I'll add those.

There, added the time slips.

335dsleeper has already told me I had a "weak ass burnout" :-) ... I know. I'm not interested in the quickest ET as the amount of stress that causes on the vehicle is gigantic, and I'd rather not start breaking things. The trap speed, as a power measurement verification, is the thing I've been interested in.

I agree - launching these cars puts an insane amount of stress on the drivetrain

Any chance you'll be able to run a 1/2 mile event? I have one in May here in NC.

I don't think there's any events like that around these parts. But I don't think at this point I'd do it anyway... I'm planning to just use/enjoy the car from here on out and don't have any more hardware modifications planned, so I may not even race it anymore.

You need to go have fun with some of the domestic guys around your parts. I'm sure you'd hurt some feelings. Ha

Anyone know how many E90 M3's or 335's are running this fast?

Great job once again!

I think a 335i 1/8 and 1/4 mile time thread exists.

As a point of reference, my 335d vs FBO 335i running JB4 with MHD backend flash, e85.

Understand. It's expensive enough to build, only to rebuild.....

Most folks do not understand the attention to detail it takes to get to the level TDIwyse is at. There are fine adjustments and tweaks that added 7HP here another 6HP there. An independent thinker, completely data driven, he is his own man and the results show it. BRAVO!

That is wonderful the progression people are making with these cars. I bet it is only a matter of time before someone has a Stage 5 500whp/700lbft of torque on boost only and guys like you will probably be 600-700+

Does doing any port and polishing the head or more aggressive cams help? What about a short runner intake manifold to help increase top end horsepower since there is more than enough torque?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Here's the Torque Track Recorder raw data from the 125.71 mph run. And then I entered 2 of the top end 4th gear data points into matchbot as a sanity check on power output levels.

Comments on the logged data... I have 2 water/methanol injectors (one has its solenoid wired with a switch in the cab to enable/disable its utilization ... some ambient conditions I can inject more than others before AFR's get too low and impact power output). The 2nd nozzle was used during these runs, but the CACT does not reflect the evaporative cooling generated by the 2nd nozzle, which is located after the CACT sensor. So the logged CACT is actually a bit higher than what is really occuring, which means there's likely a bit more air than matchbot predicts ... but I don't know how much, so I'm just using the sensor data in matchbot.

The BSFC in matchbot is a bit of a guestimate at this point. When combining diesel and methanol fumigation, the literature accounts for BSFC as a ratio of the average of each fuel based on % of total fuel. That's why I'm using a BSFC much worse than what diesel by itself would give, and is an approximate value based on the amount of methanol I'm measuring being injected.

Hey TDI, care to update the first post on:

What stage of transmission tune you got and since i really really like how you care about reliability and daily-driveability more then anything, how is this tune performs in regular/soft driving?

Anyone else got a transmission tune!?

It's a DWR "special" :-)

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...postcount=2155

It works great for regular daily driving. Less "harsh" shifting than the stage 3 xHP tune, which I was a little concerned about how fast and hard it shifted with the stage 3 and the amount of torque going through the transmission...
