Eleven injured as vehicle crashes into bystanders at car meet

I loved going to car shows in the 90's (CCI - Capri Club International) and I don't remember any of these kinda antics, car revving, of course LOL

And I don't wanna be a killjoy, but people spend 100's of hours and $1000's of dollars on there cars, not to mention the cost of there car... NO wait, it's mummies or daddies car according to insurance

You spend hours detailing your car, not even letting a dirty wash mitt touch the car, cosset your car, and yet you trash it ? I don't get the mentality

Risk there licence, even jail time and death any injury? I don't understand it.

(see the BMW at 0.38sec mark)

I saw a few video's taken at Bimmerfest's and you wonder if any spectators are gonna get hurt. I mean some cars are in the 50k mark.

I can't even consider doing a wheel spin and having to replace a clucth, diff or blown tire, Not to mention, the road racing fine here in Canada, which will see your car impounded for sure, 6 points on your licence,up to a 5k fine and even jail time.

-------------------------------------
BELOW VIDEO IS NOT THE INCIDENT JUST AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT I'VE SEEN ON YOUTUBE

Eleven people have been injured - including some seriously - after a vehicle crashed into bystanders at a car meet.

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the incident in Scunthorpe.

Police were called to reports of a collision at an industrial estate on Saturday night.

Humberside Police said 11 were injured during the incident at Flixborough Industrial Estate.

He said a 17-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

This is the reason I’m hesitant to go to cars and coffees etc. 99% are normal and nice people but there’s always one person who has to do something stupid. Most of the time they only hurt their pride or car, but it can end up being much worse.

I just don't do car shows ever. For the most part I can go to any dealership and see a bunch of shit I don't like just sitting there, clean. I enjoy cars being driven, abused, fixed. I want to see cars being USED.

My biggest gripe though is how meets/shows/events have moved from random parking lots to breweries. I absolutely hate drunk driving, even buzzed driving. And to hold anything auto at such a place is utterly stupid. I can't go to ANY local BMW meet because all of them are at bars. I'll never associate myself with those kinds of people. Actually I'm not a BMW person at all. I just have one because it fit the criteria I'd set out for a car. I more align with the drift and rally guys than anyone else.

I never like to hear about anyone getting hurt. But there does come a point where you just become numb and think, well they put themselves in a place where they knew it could happen. Watching cars leave, what do you think you'll see? You're not there to watch traffic go by. You're there to be witness to tomfoolery and mayhem. When you get swept up in it, well you took that chance. Could have just looked up video or picture and lived vicariously. Nope you had to be victim # 7.

But that isn't just car shows/show-offs. You go to any motorsports event and people fight to be pressed against the fence and the first to get impaled by debris and taken to the hospital.
Drag racing, they have to be licking the driver window to see what is going on.
Rally, they have to be standing on the road. If they don't feel all the rocks shatter their teeth they won't be satisfied.
Road racing, no worries. No one knows what that is.
Auto-x, see above.

People only watch for crashes and damage.

We've had a few 'meetups' in Phoenix the past year or so. Everyone drives pretty safe and no one drives like a moron.

Unfortunately the larger cars and coffee meetups bring out the idiots

I don’t wish harm or injury on anyone but blame usually goes both ways to *some* drivers and *some* bystanders. Drivers who crash showing off are dumb but there are some bystanders that really aggressively egg drivers on to do dumb stuff. Again, i don’t think they deserve to be hurt for doing so, but a lot of these people are not innocent bystanders

I attend C&C every once in awhile and it’s surprising how aggressive they are. I never do burnouts or full throttle starts and they get really nasty when i wave them off with a smile

Is the thumbnail accurate because if so its ALWAYS a mustang. Its a running joke around car meets like cars and coffee that everyone goes running when mustangs are leaving.

I've seen several of these types of videos and injuries happen more often than you'd think, many unreported for various reasons. I tend to think that most car meets are relatively safe though, and you sort of know when this type of behavior is going to go down (pretty easy to leave before everyone else does).

To me, this is the same dumb*** bull**** it's always been. NEVER EVER get your car near the performance limit on a public road. It's just too dangerous. It's dangerous enough, on a track, with an instructor, and a helmet, and a firesuit, and flaggers....

I don't think I've ever seen a Porsche in any of these fail compilations, although I'm sure if you dig hard enough you can find one.

There's a certain amount of truth to stereotype demographics and the Porsche crowd, by and large, ain't the type to do this stuff (anymore)(on the streets). They've either gotten it out of their system or channel their urges to the proper venues - at the track.

Yeah the key is to just not park or stand near the exit, its always jackholes leaving who want to show off for the crowd.

Ive literally only seen one stag-branded car do this and it was ages ago and it was some kid in a ragged out Boxster. That is about the only time you're gonna find that, some old cheap porsche some idiot got for their kid.

New money trash doesn't tend to go for them because they aren't flashy enough.

I am part of a massive 997 group in Toronto. Our meet ups are pretty dang civil, we go for a 2 hr cruise in a semi rural area, stop half way for a feed and to talk shit about our cars. We drive in a spirited manner but it's pretty dang tame, nothing like in those videos just "enthusiastic" driving rather than hooning. Very mature crowd, mostly 40 and 50 something dudes just wanting to enjoy their car.

To be fair, you need to work hard to break a car loose with under 400hp, 305 rears and the engine out back.

I remember at a Porsche show once, (mixed cars) we were on the Porsche stand, a kid came over, 17 ? liked the cars was more into the performance aspect, "Mate how fast does that go then" followed by, he was wanting to but one, a "cheap old one"
We advised he'll get stuck with the insurance aspect.
Said "oh my mum will insure it, I'm just gonna be a named "drive" on it"

Being a ‘named driver’ on a car that you are the primary/sole driver of is called fronting, and the insurance companies are well wise to it.

I go to the C&C put on by my local CCA chapter and the driving antics are HIGHLY frowned upon, and you will catch flack and potentially be asked to leave if you hoon your car anywhere near the meeting point.

something different, I always thought the word "hoon" or "hooning" was just another way of saying, going out for a bit of a cruise/drive, didnt realise it related to AS behaviour ! LOL
I always said to my mates, "I'm just going out for a hoon" or "didn't do much this weekend just took the car out for a hoon"

Wow how wrong can ya be. no-one ever questioned me LOL

It's always the ricer cheap car crowd. Every single time.

Weekend morning cars & coffee you never see this. Higher end cars, owners are more educated and mature, the car is a hobby rather than a compensation tool for an unfulfilling life.
