The factory set up is limited in the snorkels which funnel air between the top of the grill and the airbox. So adding a second pathway to grab cold air from the front of the car can be helpful.

Some sealed cold air intakes (BMW performance intake comes to mind) replace the snorkels but I don’t know how much better the replacements flow vs stock, and other intakes (AFE and Dinan) add additional flow pathways separate to the stock snorkels.

The purpose and idea of the scoop and ram air duct are the same, but the question comes to how effective is the scoop

If you have an OBD2 reader/gauge. You will notice the OEM Intake actually gets hot. IAT can be 20C + or even higher, that is not what you want.

My car has the eurobox, for the PI it doesn't change much to mine except the extra part that withdraws air from just below the windshield

I've been playing around with Torque on my phone the last few days in preparation for a long uphill drive. I've noticed my IATs with the Performance Intake are as low as +3F above ambient on the highway. I am going to do some more testing to confirm the dash thermometer reads the same as the OBDII ambient thermometer reading.

However these preliminary results are directly in line with my observed butt dyno results of the intake install, which were: sounds cool, seems to give a bigger boost on the highway than around town.

I'd absolutely love to have the euro PI but I rarely see it for sale, used. Can't justify $800 + for that ish lol.

I was happy to see such low IATs frankly. Makes me feel a little more justified in blowing said $800

Have not seen one in awhile. I added a new intake temp record to post #1.

Without the lid, cruising speed, intake temp is significantly lower than closed box, which is very strange.
But of course once it hits the red light, the intake temp INSTANTLY goes up, but ones car start moving, intake temp goes down

Still wanna know the source for your parts and how you connected to the back of the bumper. I’m interested in giving this a try.

Ebay search keyword

1. Ram air duct
2. air duct grille

Back to your qus, how to mount it?
If you see the grille that I got it has 6 screws, theres a front and rear plate. So our car's grille go in between this after market grille, using the screws to secure it.
All you need is a 3 inches hole saw cup

Has anyone actually measured the temperature difference and density differential between air that is 8 inches above the road vs. air that is 18 inches above the road?

Hey, so I've started doing this mod using my AFE intake using a 3" diameter duct. I removed the fender liner and when I looked into it I noticed that the bumper is readily accessible and I had the idea that maybe it would be easier and probably safer to cut out a hole and make a E46 M3 CSL-style ram air intake instead of using the brake duct depending on what kind of environment you drive in. Right now I'm in the process of smoothing out and widening the hole I cut into the AFE box since the flange I bought has a slightly larger outer diameter. I need to use some molding putty to make the mounting flush so I can bolt the flange to the box. Once that's done I'll cut a whole in the bumper and probably take it to a body shop to smooth out do a once over to make the paint around it look nice before installing another flange for the ducting.

Where can I get a link for this inlet?

I've gone a similar route in my pre LCI with Xenons. Where I sacrificed a beautiful fog light due to my M-Sport bumper.

Sorry the inlet that I have will NOT fit PRE LCI Msport bumper, UNLESS you shave/cut the inlet top and bottom flat. I hope this helps.

That's no problem. I just have not been able to find a link to purchase one.

have ya'll disconnected the constant pressure valve hose from the intake? that'd be the best way to make the intake temperature colder lol. I bet the stock airbox is good enough for the engine
