700 miles, engine being replaced
I know this should be in the F30 section but I thought I would share it here too.
I got my car about 5 days ago. After about two days and about 300 miles I heard a strange vibrating ticking noise from the engine bay at around 3.5k-4k rpm. A couple days go by and the ticking vibrating noise gets louder and does it at all rpms and even idle. I bring it into my dealer to see whats wrong. I was thinking maybe a belt or something was hitting and causing the noise. After 2 days of being at the dealer I call my service advisor to learn my car is now having the entire engine replaced and they will have it for about 10 days. I got very little information but will update tomorrow. I am extremely upset and angry as I have only put 700 miles on the car and its brand new. I was enjoying it so much and obeying the break in rules just to have the engine replaced. What is there to do now? Car: 2013 335i N55 F30

10 days isn't that bad..should be about 3 weeks, engines are usually ordered from Germany. Your dealer is doing a great job allocating the engine. It happens man. call bmw customer relations and start a claim to start your buyback process. Maybe they'll get you into a new one..good luck. I've seen X5's with lower end noises from connecting rods or spun bearings that have required motors under 1,000 miles as well.

That sucks man. Bet all your hater-ass, econobox-driving friends are pointing and laughing now. "I told you not to buy that overpriced PoS." they're probably saying.
Shrug it off. Shit happens. Maybe contact BMWNA and ask them to discount an extended warranty for you or something. |

I would request an immediate replacement vehicle.
Your car is 5 days old, and only has 700 miles. This was defective from the onset, and should be considered "DOA". I honestly would not settle for anything than a replacement vehicle. |

Interesting. I really love the car and think it will be almost impossible to find the same spec'd f30 in my state. I had my car flatbedded to a different dealer where my close family friend is manager of fleet sales. Getting a loaner dropped off at my house tonight and gonna let them take a look at it

Thats terrible! You should ask for a new replacement! Are you able to use the lemon law?

Did you lease or buy?
Not sure what laws are in your state, but they may be one that states you can return within 30 days. I'd want a fresh car if it was not leased, as that engine replacement will hurt resale value, IMO. |

I would ask for a new car and talk to BMWNA. I want to reiterate how hard it is for a dealer to just up and give you a new car as a replacement. We had to jump through a few hoops and we "know" some people. It's an unlikely possibility but worth a shot. I agree. I would not want to buy a new car to have the engine replaced in under $1000 miles. I would be pretty upset about that and likely want to get rid of the car after. It's just not the same. If it's a lease then whatever but I dont lease cars so I cant empathize as well. |

Oh yeah, you're in CA too, even better. Lemon Law is so lenient here. Good luck! |

Pretty sure you can talk the dealer into an immediate replacement, my brother bought a 2013 E92 335i, he drove 800 miles and the Airbag light illuminated due to a faulty seatbelt buckle.....they gave him the exact same car as a replacement with no questions asked.
