Intercooler

Guys, just curious why AA Rod doesn't sell the Wagner intercooler anymore. I am looking for the best option for an upgrade and already have the charge pipe installed so he use to have an option for it without the pipe.

Give his shop a call, he may still have a few laying around. Looks like he has switched to ATM, which eliminates the oem type seals, especially if you also get the asv hose kit. Very happy with my ATM FMIC, quality unit.

aliexpress.com has some instercoolers that are essentially the same thing if you can wait for the shipping. dieselops.com also has some laying around I believe.

Short and skinny of it is they're all the same Chinese intercooler. It's better than stock, but nothing too crazy. I'd go for the ATM or Orion intercoolers before I went with a Wagner or similar.

Not trying to call you out, just curious. Are you sure the ATM/Orion aren't based off another chinese model?

I was thinking of getting one off of Aliexpress but if ATM/Orion are significantly better, then I'd pay the price for it.

Not sure where ATM is manufactured, but it is a high quality core based off a 335i FMIC and custom solicone piping with cnc'd adapters with t-bolt clamp that won't pop under high boost

I have a used one if you want a wagner. $375 shipped. Nothing wrong with it, I just upgrade to a BPC BFIK. If you are not going hybrids, a wagner or ATM works just fine.

ATM will work great with hybrids too

The pressure drop and cooling capability of the ATM intercooler is far superior than an eBay CXracing intercooler.

ATM is a Helix core with rounded end tanks. It also eliminates factory quick connects for a better seal.

Orion is a CX Racing core that comes with larger hard pipes to flow more air and also eliminates quick connects for a better seal.

The $200 intercoolers on aliexpress don't replace factory quick connects. I'm not totally sure what they do, but they're better than stock.

I love threads like this

The difference between an ATM intercooler and all the other options is only one of them has a custom spec'd core made to unique manufacturer specifications, the rest are $50 Chinese/ebay cores that are either cookie cutter designs and/or universal cores made to fit. Take a look inside an ATM core and you'll see the proof.

The best part though is when people assume a CX racing core will outperform a high-quality core because it is "larger". Has anyone ever compared core volume between the 2 options? You might be surprised when you actually do the math (please someone do the math ). Then consider how much of the core is actually exposed to moving ambient air. This is why the ATM will outperform the other options. The logs tell the tale.....

But at the end of the day, all of the above options are certainly better than stock!

Has a remedy been found for the slipping hoses on the OrionCXRacing intercooler. I’m sorry if I had missed it.

It all comes down to proper installation. Once you get it on, seated, and clamped correctly, all is good.
