Remote Key button not able to lock car

Recently I purchased a 2006 325i, no comfort access. During the purchase, I didn’t realize the remote key button for lock didn’t work or not sure if it’s some settings in the car? Right now I have to manually lock it via slide out key.

The remote works fine to unlock the car and open the trunk, just not able to lock. Is it possible to have a defective lock button on the key? If so, what’s the option besides getting a new remote? Do the cheap eBay remote portion work to lock, unlock and open trunk without needing to take it to a dealer or locksmith to program it like on E46s?

Go to autozone, they have IR testers for keyfobs to see if a signal is being sent from the fob when buttons are pressed. Perhaps you have a bad keyfob. Ebay keyfobs wont work without being programmed from the dealership or knowing someone able to do it.

Thanks, will try to find an Autozone or O'reilly that have the IR tester. If the buttons do work, what else can possibly be wrong with the system?

Alright, went to an Autozone/O'reilly and tested the remote. When pressing the lock button, the IR tester doesn't light up (no response); whereas the trunk and unlock button works fine.

Is there a way to replace the lock button on the remote? Or do I have to buy a new remote?

I know, but that was for the GM5 module and/or E46 diamond key. No where it says his willing to repair any E90 keys.

Either finding someone online that programs keys on the side or order a new one from the dealership, I believe are your only options

Nowhere it says he doesn't repair e90 keys read deeper.
He also shows pictures of the rectangular keys

Go to any locksmith or AutoZone, they have IR testers for keyfobs to detect if a signal is being sent from the fob when being pushed.

FIXED E90 Remote

remote worked fine except for LOCK button...looked at every blog about it, finally someone suggested testing IR remote at O'reilly's or Autozone. The tester lit just fine for unlock and trunk buttons but not for Lock button. I bit the bullet and opened the case with xacto knife and managed to do it without drawing blood. With case off, we tested button again...still not working. then took some tweezers and jumped the solder points and LOCK function worked!!!! BAD BUTTON !!! The computer/electronics geek I work with removed lock button with pinpoint soldering iron and replaced button with one removed from a similar $8 Ebay replacement. SUCCESS!!!

Get a can of no-residue electronics cleaner for $5 and try that first. It may get the switch working again.

OP, Now that you have a fully working remote, can I suggest that you also obtain a spare one.

If anything happens to your current key fob (lost, stolen, driven over, dropped down a drain, etc) you really don't want to be in the position that you have no way of opening/starting your car.

Hello I can make you spare fob and cut key if needed. Would need CAS module and working key fob to make it for you if interested. Thank you.
