How To Get 330i Power From The E90 325i

Hey Guys, this is probably a repost from a long time ago, but I just found it and would love to hear some feedback.

This article claims that a 325i can be upgraded to 265hp with some software updates and a 3 stage manifold.

Article: http://www.eurotuner.com/techarticle...25i/index.html

Is this even possible? How come no one sells a different intake manifold for the 325/328 crowd?

Your thoughts...

from what i read before you can buy the 330 3 stage intake manifold but i think people have a hard time trying to get the 330 software to work with the 325/328. I could be wrong but that's what I remember.

Interesting find. I don't know that I'd be willing to spend the $5k for the setup, but to each their own.

Ya, im not just saying this because i dont want you to succeed at it but i have know 2 people who have done this (attempted) got all the parts and everything but there is no comparison between the 2 cars even after the mods.
software is a HUGE issue and BMW isnt going to just hand it over. personally i think its a bottomless pit. especially knowing how hard it is tuning the N52 engines to start with.

if you want more info PM me

I bought the PBX last week, and the car feels so much better. So it started me thinking how else can we improve the hp.

So I wonder if its possible to do the 3 stage manifold mod, and then flash the ECU to take advantage of all the extra air coming in? Can you do that with LET tuning? Or maybe even an upgrade for the PBX with a new tune for it?

That would be amazing!

I feel like the 5k is mostly for the software upgrade VS the actual work/parts.

Well if most/part of the $5k went to the software and they got an amazing 4whp out of it and you've already dropped $280 on a "10"hp PBX, then I'd say you're well ahead of the curve

That site has been sitting there since 2006 with Turner Motorsports having since removed mods related to this. As far as I'm concerned there is still no proven result that has been demonstrated this far.

If you look at the sticky near the top on the 3 - Stage Intake manifold, you can follow e90 Pilot and see what kind of headway he has made.

What we do know is that you can get the hardware from a 330i and install it on the 325i making it virtually identical. The key thing though is the software programming. There's no way to rewrite the code over with 330i code, or to replace the ECU with a 330i one. The only alternative is to change the mapping on the 325i ECU to emulate the 330i's to take full advantage of the 3 -Stage Intake Manifold.

e90 Pilot is after power chips to do the tune for him, it shouldn't be too long until he is able to get dyno's posted for us.

The resonator and muffler have different part numbers as well. I don't know what the difference between the two is. I'm still in dealings with Powechip. The throttle tuning isn't working properly (the full story is in the giant 3-stage intake manifold thread). It's been months and it's been very difficult getting any help from Powerchip. They might be a little more motivated if there were more people willing to buy it if it works. If you go down my route, you'll be out about $1500-$2000. How many people would be interested in buying this if I can get it to work on my car?

An german BMW-Tuner ... DS-Motorsport GmbH (link) had solved this problem ... he tunes the n53 325i with 3ltr engine with software modifications (and probably some changes at the 325 manifold!?) to the 330i level ... result 270HP as he claims.

In an german BMW forum this modifikation is discused ... also with guys who had done this tune on an 125i:

Isn't a stock 325 rated at 215hp?

I would like to see this happen. And for 1.5 - 2k it seems well worth it (if it works). Currently, Intake, bmw perf. exhaust, BMS pbx is already 2k and won't take you to 330i levels of power.

e90pilot... If this fails i will hate you for bringing up my hopes and crushing them again! LOL i read the original 50+ page thread a while back only to end up wasting my time. I hope this isn't the same!!!! HHAHA i kid!

Good Luck with the upgrade. I live in the eastbay as well so if you do get this working I'd seriously consider it.

It works and I have the dyno to proove it! I'm waiting for DSR in San Jose to email me the file. Here's a picture of the print out but it's hard to see.
