So it's probably a hardware issue, what happens when you try to lock it, either remotely or manually? Any clicking or noise? Inspect the latch on the door jam, as well as the corresponding mechanism inside the door. While you're looking inside the actual lock, reach around and manually lock it with the key and see what happens. Next step after that would be take off the entire door insert on the interior and check all the wires and mechanism. Post some pictures if you can too, then we could help more. My best guess is just failure and you could find a salvage yard with that part easily I'm sure, depending on your area of course.

Passenger side doesn't have a key hole, does it?

You can remove the actuator and try to take it apart and fix it if you're handy, or just replace it.

Be happy that it's stuck open and unlocked. I had the opposite problem where my rear door wouldn't unlock and therefore wouldn't open. I was able to remove the interior door trim with the door closed and ended up inserting a small pick in the hole where the lock rod attaches to move a rotating mechanism and unlock the door. A new actuator is over $100 but I got one from a junk yard for $25.

DOY! For whatever reason I thought he said driver door! He'd have to have really long arms to reach from the passenger side.
