Wondering if you can just unhook battery to reset adaptations? That how it works in most cars.

I donīt think that we can reset by ourselves, I reseted it with the bmw machine, we had to enter in ignition menu or similar. I could read "reset of stratification adaptation"
The dealer did not know nothing about this, but our engines can work with stratified mix (no smooth), the mix is distributed by layer (higher volume of gasoline near of spark plug)

I too reseted the "trottle adaptation", we can do it by ourselves without machine, there is a post about this:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6309845

Note: the adaptation learns about our driving style, when you reset the adaptation, normally we will notice a improvement.

^^

Going to the dealer this week to have this done. It's been about 1400 miles since they replaced my sparks and the idling has gotten a little better but not 100%.

Good luck. I hope you have better luck than i did with my dealer regarding the idle after they changed my plugs. They checked my car for fault codes last week to see if it would tell why i get a rough idle at certain times hot or cold, no codes no solution, they did nothing.

If i were to mention the question to the service manager of the adaptation reset to make an appointment he likely would not know what the hell i was talking about, he is just a guy with a shirt and tie, not a tech, it amazes me how much he does not know about these cars, i am just an enthusiast and i feel like i know more.

let us know if they fix your idle problem.

I went yesterday to get a quart of oil (another issue that BMW will not admit something is wrong) and mentioned the reset and the SA looked at me like...uhhh they did reset the computer. She showed me where the computer was reset to say the spark plugs were changed. But I told her about the ignition menu, stratification adaptation and she said I would need an appt. Hopefully I can get them to hook it up while I'm present.

Does anyone know if we can reset this value with a BT cable?

When you drive more miles, the idling will be perfect.

Resolved my rough idle issue:

There is a Porsche service bulletin to not use Anti-Sieze "anti-seize compound seems to interfere with the proper grounding of the plugs."

We can use a tiny bit of DiElectric grease on the ceramic top of the plug or the rubber boot of the ignition coil to make removing the ignition coil easier in the future.

Check the gap of your old plugs, all six of the factory platinum Bosch plugs had a .043 gap, the box and website both say .040, I adjusted the new ones to match with a wire gap tool, car is running exactly the same as with the old plugs.

When I gap the plugs to .040 it starts rough after sitting dormant overnight (hot soak) and idled rough. Yes, I cleared all adaptations using a BT tool, still idled and started rough after a hot soak.

We can also use an 8" extension for the rear two plugs instead of removing the bar that runs over top of them.

They said its normal and couldn't find anything wrong, no codes, etc. They can't do anything without codes and I told them about the injectors, coil packs, etc...no action without any codes.

Should I contact BMWNA?
I'm having this exact issue, although I havent taken it to the stealership since I am no longer under warranty.

Car idles rough at about 600rpms, other than that it is still smooth and perfect. Checked the coils and the connectors and everything seems fine. No CELs or anything.

Has anyone figured this out?

Go back and gap them. It doesn't matter that they are pre-gapped. I have yet to find plugs (even pre-gapped ones) that didn't need gapping.

Now gappy gap gap and go back to gap . Felt silly for a moment after saying gap a lot.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Will try to go back and check the gap on the plugs later. The OEM plugs should already be correctly gapped though correct?

If im correct, the ECU should also adjust the gap over time correct? So maybe after driving it for X miles it will adjust?

I have same issue. I don't have any sort of cable or machine to hook it up to so I am wondering how I get this fixed by the dealership since they also changed my plugs

I had an issue where I get a misfire when engine is cold that cause service engine light to turn on for 10 minutes until engine warms up and then engine light turns off and all 6 cylinders works back normal!!!
This problem have cleared after I replaced my spark plugs with the NGK recommended on realoem.com but now I have this rough idle when I stop in traffic lights!!! my car is an 06 325xi and I changed the spark plugs @ 92K miles

Resetting the throttle adaptation resolved my rough idle problems that started right after replacing the spark plugs.
as stated on other discussions you can reset adaptation driving with the following easy steps

1. Never touch the break pedal & key remains inserted the entire time
2. Insert key and push START Button
3. Press and HOLD gas pedal for 5 seconds
4. WITHOUT RELEASING THE GAS PEDAL, push the START Button
5. Release gas pedal
6. Wait full 2 minutes
7. Start car normally

Does this work on a e90 LCI, 335i? Just got a call from my tech at and Independent shop to pick up my car and drive it until it spits a code or "gets used to the coils". I'm a bit concerned that it could also be a carbon issue. 52,000 miles.

Rough idle after changing spark plugs Solution

I had same issue.

What fixed is tightening of a gap on coil connector plug .
Lock at copper connections where 3 pins of a coil insert in (to big of a gap no connection misfire as a result).
Using some needle or something similar tighten the gap and you are going to solve the problem .
