BMW N52 E90 Rough Idle Fix Cheap
Hello, let me start by saying I am no expert in any of this, I have fixed everything after doing allot of research and reading and thought I would share the whole story of what problem I had and the way I went around fixing it.
*Problem Symptons* - When I start the car the rev counter would bounce around - Car would be shaking badly to the point your getting a uncofortable back massage - When I came to a stop in gear one car would still be shaking - It would be ok after a while of driving but still had a little shake - Engine was a bit loud - Car would sometimes skip a beat (Or it felt like it) *Solution* Please also note nearly all of these things can be bought from halfords and have given links. 1. Try fill petrol with shell v premium fuel, this is a great place to start as the v power has a higher level octane which is good for the health of your car. It also from what I have heard from a garage it can also clean the engine and injectors, how much I believe this I am not sure however it did feel allot different following the next few steps. 2. After you have added a full tank of petrol simply get some petrol cleaner, this will clean the system of the car including injectors and other little bits and bobs which will add more MPG to your car( I gained from 17 to 24 in town). Link - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/en...system-cleaner 3. Vanos Selenoids, this is a step you can either replace or clean. Lets go with cleaning first. You can find lots of tutorials online and location of the solenoids, simply take them out first remember to put a rag underneath as you dont want oil to leak on the belts. Remove the solenoids, they should have a rubber ring around it if it doesnt stick your finger in the hole and should feel it. Put that back on the solenoid and spray thoroughly with the degreaser, after sprayed everywhere get a air compressor can used to clean laptops and spray all the residue of the degreaser. Leave for a few min to make sure all oils have left. In reverse put in the solenoids in the reverse locations. So put the top one in the botton and bottom in top location. Degreaser- https://www.halfords.com/motoring/en...egreaser-250ml 4. Carefully take out the MAF sensor, give it a good clean with either a MAF Cleaner or electrical contact cleaner. Leave to dry for a little bit till it is all dry and put back in. Cleaner - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/en...-cleaner-500ml If you would like any more information on how to do any of these then please do not hesistate to comment and I will be more than happy to help anyone out. This should only take at max around 20-30min. This has so far fixed my problem and car runs smooth and like almost new. |

For me, it required replacing both DISA valves and reconnecting the oil return pipe that had been poorly connected in the first place by a "specialist". Some good tips though, what petrol cleaner did you use?
