Oil change rates, from average to rip off!

Well, I figured I'll probably be keeping my car for awhile and some extra out-of-pocket TLC is acceptable to keep it chugging efficiently as long as possible. So I wanted to get an oil change before my service light comes on.

Anyway I called Reeves (Tampa), where I bought my car, and they wanted $179!!! Crazy

Then I called Ferman BMW (Palm Harbor, near where I work) and they quoted me $95.40 for a basic filter + oil change, or $147 for a "full service" where they also reset the light and make sure all system checks are passing. I asked about a loaner and they said usually they don't give one out since it only takes 1 hr, but depending on the time I get in and availability they could give me one.

Bert Smith BMW (St. Pete, closest dealer to my work place) quoted me $105.88. Took an appointment with them since they're the closest and have a decent price. I might just wait on it while they're changing it.

I'll have to remember to tell them not to reset anything so I can get my free one later... though I don't know if they would anyway if Ferman had 2 diff. prices for basic/full to do a reset.

$95-$115 seems to be a comfortable price point for unscheduled basic oil changes (based on people's posts). Go with it

That'd be nice but I have no way to lift the car, no ramps, and I live in an apt. complex so it'd just get too awkward.

Nice, that's the lowest I've heard.

I agree that upto $120ish is fine, that was my impression of the average on the forums, but more than that is just unreasonable.
