Sunday Drive through Mines Rd (Bay Area) [Lrg photos]
Well I was bored and it was a beautiful day. So I decided to take Auska (my e92 335i) out so she can enjoy the sunshine. I went online to look for mountain roads I can take her, because frankly going fast on a straight road isn't as much fun as going fast on a twisty road. On a motorcycle forum I found a road that connects Livermore and San Jose, Mines Rd. I never been there so I decided to check it out. Man this road is awesome. Just miles of open two lane, sometimes one lane, roads through the country and mountains. This trip covers a good 40 to 50 miles. It took me a little under 2 hours to finish the entire route, with stops.
Here are some pictures I took along the way. The route: Attachment 64369 Blue skies all the way: Attachment 64370 Imagine this car in your rear view mirror: Attachment 64371 Enjoying the peaceful countryside: Attachment 64372 Resting before taking more turns like this one: Attachment 64373 This was the highest elevation I got to on the drive, steepest grade was 6%: Attachment 64374 This road isn't for beginners if you want to tackle the turns, there is no room for errors. This road is used by locals and a lot of motorcyclists, so try to look ahead when you can and be courteous when you are out there. Last edited by tibbz; 11-02-2012 at 07:32 PM.. |

mines is pretty fun road. you can do a drive from livermore up to mount hamilton then back down to san jose, or vice versa. the cool thing about mines is that it's very vacant.
in the past, some sections of the road had gravel, which can be kinda annoying, especially if you go as a group. how was it this past weekend?

It was gorgeous man. It was a perfect day to hit the road. There were still a lot of places with loose gravel that made it scary at times. Since it was a weekend there were lots of motorcycles and bicyclists out there. But overall it was just fun. |
