The main difference between our intercooler and the competitor intercoolers will be our fin pack design.



Most of our competitors get a max of 7 charge rows, we get 10 charge rows. By doing this we get an extra 6 heat transfer plates (the plates are located on the top or bottom of the charge row). With more front heat transfer area we can then loosen up our internal fin pack for less pressure drop.



The fin pack we use is also offset and staggered. This forced the air to split multiple times before leaving core resulting in a much cooler AIT.



The picture above is a good example of the ETS core vs a competitor core. Showing how many more charge rows we have.

You can see the difference in internal fin pack. The air flow in the competitor core is straight through, you can hold the core up and see daylight through it. This core will result in a higher AIT.

michael i have some questions
it doesn't require any cutting in the pipes ?

for the hpf intercooler the only thing that need to be cut is the black plastic support between the front bumper and the intercooler

does the ets intercooler goes same or it require cutting another parts ??

and if i want to buy it how much will it cost ? and does it come with charge pipe ?

No cutting any of the bumper, support, etc. The only thing you have to cut off is a non reusable BMW clamp on the lower pipe. We provide t-bolt clamps and a lower charge pipe with the each intercooler. So it's direct bolt on with no trimming

Right now we are currently out of 5.0" core until January. If you contact AR Design they have a couple 5.0" in stock ready to go! Andrew or Chris will be able to help you out for sure.

In your hot environment you should seriously consider an intercooler with a larger exposed face to curtail heat soak. The Helix intercooler has an ambient face 56% larger than stock and and exposed ambient face(the face of the intercooler exposed to outside air above the lower plastic cowl) up to 70% larger than some of the stock height but thicker intercoolers it also has rounded bars on the ambient and charge side inside the intercooler to aid in pressure drop and airflow direction and a dense offset staggered fin core with 13 charge rows(heat transfer plates) vs most manufacturers 7-8.




Helix is also a direct bolt on with no trimming required on the 335 and there is a group buy going on right now, where you can see the data and pics on it! I also believe Helix may have some units in stock.

Here is a pic of the helix next the Ams 7"(?) please look at the core above the mounting brackets as this is the exposed ambient face above the lower plastic cowl as you can see some manufacturers make their intercoolers bigger by enlarging them in areas not exposed to ambient air where ours maintains stock geometry!

OP, I've been on this forum for years and I'm not even sure which one is best. I have the ETS 5" and never seen the need to go with anything else. Perhaps later...

Yeah, a modestly sized intercooler upgrade should be sufficient for most people's needs. Unless you have bigger turbos and are trying to break 60-130 records or something, a gargantuan intercooler just seems like overkill. Then again, it all comes down to the price difference between the two.

Can you explain the difference between the 5" and the 7" FMIC? Obviously size is different. But is the 5" intercooler more practical for 95% of the 335's out there (running stock turbos)? Any downsides to the 5" vs the 7"?

No downsides to going with the 5" on stock turbos as far as I know. I think the 5" goes in easier, cutting down install time.
