'Extras' for the new car....
640d arrives next weekend, I think. No confirmation but it must be around then. Car arrived in the UK last Tuesday, so I guess it must be at Thorne and will be delivered to the dealers some time this week. I am thinking about adding a few extra items when I get the car and want to extract as much as possible from the dealer. Was thinking about:
- Contract Hire GAP - dealer will sell it to me for £175, but I have seen it online for about £100. - Media snap in adaptor (iPhone 4) for use with 6FL and 6NR (Apps), this has an RRP of about £150. This is a must have. - Black front mats (rubber or velour). The standard are the same colour as the interior (white!) - Boot liner which has a flap which protects the sill/bumper - a consideration as my sons wheelchair will be put in it. - No doubt the dealer will want to sell me Tyre insurance (19" run flats) is it worth it? and Supaguard (definitely not interested in that). Any thoughts? anything else I should consider? I have asked the dealer if they will throw in the media adaptor if I take their GAP cover, but they haven't replied to me email! |

Pete,
For me the gap is a no brainier at that money. I would want the snap in adaptor and well as the mats, I personally would need to boot liner but if you see it helping I would go for it. The other two things are a waste of cash..

I'm almost as excited as you! Agree about GAP, media snap in, mats and boot liner. Good idea asking the dealer about GAP insurance and the media adaptor. As for supaguard I think it's a waste of money and I believe in insurance "light" so I wouldn't get tyre insurance. You could pm anneka to get discounted price for a media snap in as well Last edited by 225_AB; 03-26-2012 at 02:32 AM.. |

I have a quote for some of the extras from a BMW dealer on BMWLand; Media Cradle is £144.91 inc Vat with free Uk postage, and the boot mat is £71.23 inc Vat. I think they are discounted prices. I have also asked for a price for the mats
I will be pressing my dealer this week to come up with the goods! |

Ebay for the snap in adapter and any parts, there are main dealers like Scotall selling stuff on there for about a 20% discount from list which beats the forum Sytner discount. You could also email those dealers direct and possibly save a bit more as no Ebay fees to pay.

What does the snap in adapter give you over just using the standard iPod cable ?

All the connected drive apps work off the standard iPhone cable as does playlists album artwork etc. Think I'll stick with the cable and save £150. |

Peter, gap you can normally buy upto 90 days as new car status post registration. This gives you time to make sure the car has no issues and see if you will keep it long enough to need it! I own my cars so my normal insurance covers new for old in year 1 so I buy deferred gap to cover yr 2&3 only. Was £100 for £12k from memory.
Mats just scotch guard them and they will be fine. Buy new ones if they wear out but no need to spend money now. Look forward to the pics, enjoy collection.

Very exicting Pete, looking forward to hearing about your new steed and hopefully seeing it in the flesh sometime soon.
You guys who have used ALA, are there any drawbacks with them as opposed to a dealer supplied version, I got offered GAP at £190 on the Qashqai, which I was tempted to get. Any thing obvious from your research that would save me a job??

Have ordered some of the accessories with a healthy discount, will probably pick up the GAP online and go through a cashback website.
Picking up the car on Saturday morning, subject to confirmation with the dealer, am looking forward to it! |

Ok, time set for 0930 Saturday.
Not buying any of the dealer insurance products, and still in two minds what to do regarding GAP and tyre insurance. Has anyone ever heard of 'EasyGap' -they quote £99 for 2 years of Finance Contract Hire Gap ( dealer £175) and 'Direct Gap.co.uk' who offer tyre insurance for £198 (dealer £375) ? 5 tyres over 2 years, no excess and £300 per claim. |

Really? Never heard of them but if it's the same cover (return to invoice I went with, as opposed to simple gap) then it must be unbeatable.

They are here https://easygap.co.uk/
Seems like a no brainer at £99, no excess, £15K of cover which is more than enough. |
