Anyone able to get BMWhat to work using a K+DCAN cable with the UBS OTG adapter on their Android phone?

Assuming I can enable OTG USB on my phone, I'm curious how this will work. I tried asking him, but he just tells me to buy his cable.

I think it will work as I saw a YouTube of a person doing just that. Plus the android is much easier to deal with than the iPhone.
Yah the app is great, but him marketing the hardware is pretty annoying

Yeah, I agree.
The only adapter they claim will work reliably is theirs.
That could be because it's recognized and the others are not.
I wanted to buy a real good one from Scantool but just sucked it up and got the BMWhat adapter. Now I need to buy the app.

I bought the WIFI adaptor in the end, for those who are using WIFI and iPhone, how long does it take for the app to connect with the car? Mine takes a good 20+ minutes, should I buy another adapter?

20 minutes is too long.
The BMWhat bluetooth adapter connects pretty fast.

Then there's definitely something wrong with mine. Which adaptor did you buy?

Garage List
If it hasn't been mentioned before-

Pricing on the Adapters/Cables authorized by BMWhat are as follows:
  • Android Bluetooth Adapter = $25
  • Android USB-OBD Cable = $37
  • USB-OTG Adapter for Android Mobiles = $4
  • iPhone/iPad WIFI Adapter = $60
  • Shipping/Handling = $12.10
Directly from England.

Personally I use the Android BT Adapter on my 09' 328iX with my Dell Venue8 Android Tablet/KitKat even though the Dell Venue DOES support USB-OTG & would work with the cable as well...

I did this, works a treat and half the price.

Yes and no. You can read the fault reports and do some maintenance tasks (like what you can do with INPA, but it is all immensely simpler to install and use).

You cannot code with a ELM BT adapter, and it is not very clear to me at this point if you can code with an OTG USB cable.

According to the writer the OTG will do fine on older E90's but 03/2007 forward needs the Bluetooth adapter. I have a 2008 and my OTG cable will be here in a few days, for a different project but I will test it with the app to see if it will work.

As for adding features he seems open to ideas. In the last 72 hours I have around 14 emails back and forth. If he can figure out how to send a tune through the system this app will take off like wildfire. Even if you do buy his adapters you would still be cheaper than the BT cable alone!

To confirm, mine is a 2006 and OTG works for coding.

and one of these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-Micr...E:L:OC:US:3160

Then just bought the full version of BMWhat for Android and away I went coding.

I mainly wanted the corner light delete for the sidelights so my halo's were the only lights on. I was also able to code lots of other things but the main one I actually use is holding the lock button to fold the mirrors (and put up all the windows and close sunroof) and hold it to unlock and roll down all windows and sunroof.

Oh and I turned off the seatbelt chime too, that was handy! Let me know if you get stuck and I'll gladly help out - about time I returned something back to this forum :-)

So my 2006 330i was able to be coded for almost everything, except the FRM module, which is where I would code out the amber corner lights, correct? You were able to do this on your 2006?

Am I missing something, or did I miss an option in a different module?

Thanks again!

Please let us know if the cable + OTG adapter works on your 2008. I would like to try it on my 04/2007 since apparently the OBDII bluetooth adapter I have doesn't work.

The cable came in today as well the $9 bluettooth adapter. I can confirm the bluetooth adapter, I will test the OTG cable tonight.

Yours might be one of the oddball with the leftover parts so you may need the cable instead of the bluetooth.
