Advice for coding Mini R56 FRM 2
Hi apologies first of all I understand this is a BMW forum not a Mini forum. I'm looking for a bit of help/advice. My FRM2 recently packed in. I purchased a second hand one which works perfectly except when I start the car I receive a warning light on the dashboard. The warning light indicates a fog light issue but they all work perfectly and I've tried replacing the bulbs and cleaning the connectors. I've also had Rheingold connected up which found the following memory errors 009CB4 and 009CB3 but fails to clear them. I guess this would indicate that the FRM needs coded properly for the car. I was looking for advice about how to go about this properly, the correct order and which software should be used etc. I've looked at various forums and have a vague idea that I would need to change the VIN number and restore the FRM to factory settings etc.

Right now that FRM is coded to someone else's car.
Change the vin to yours using Tool32 and job fg_schrieben You need to use NCS Expert and copy your VO from your CAS to your new FRM using the job FA_WRITE. Then default code the new FRM using an expert/factory profile and job SG_CODIEREN |

Hi thanks for the reply could you provide more details on how to do this. I have found a few links that may be similar to what you've advised.
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1058568 https://www.ecuworx.co.uk/2016/02/26...f-with-tool32/ I'm trying to find more information on using NCS Expert to copy the VO number from CAS any help would be much appreciated. |

Something along these lines?
1. Load NCSExpert. 2. Load Profile and select Expertmode 3. F1 (VIN/ZCS/FA) 4. F3 (ZCS/FA f .ECU) 5. Choose E89 (for the E9X) 6. Select CAS 7. F6 (BACK) 8. F4 (Process ECU) 9. Select FRM2 (NFRM) or the Module I want to Revert back to Stock. 10. F2->Choose "SG_Codieren->ok 11. F3->to start coding the ecu with factory settings according to the vehicle VO. |

No. Winkfp will update the FRM firmware and write the VIN at the same time.
If you just wish to write the VIN use tool32 and fg_schrieben. (Include the VIN checksum which you can see at the end of your vin when connected in NCS EXPERT.) |

Hi many thanks for the advice so far. I thought I would leave it until the weekend to get the software installed and up and running.
I've tried changing the VIN number using Tool32 by using a guide you posted on a previous thread. 1. Open tool32 2. Plug in cable 3. Press F3 and choose the frm87.prg or whatever frm you have (see from INPA uif) (Mine was D_KBM.grp) 4.Select job c_fg_schrieben 5. Enter your FULL vin (including checksum) into arguments field 6. Execute job (by pressing F5 I guess?) There were no error codes and I checked the vin change was successful using c_fg_lesen however I've noticed when I open NCS Expert. File >Load Profile Expertenmodus F1(Start) F3(Chassis) R56 >FRM It still shows the previous vin number. Should this have updated to reflect this change? I understand Tool32 doesn't work for some FRMs.Would it be worth updating it with WinKFP? Also do you have a guide on how to do this with WinKFP? |

Hi I tried as you suggested using FRM87.prg in tool32.It shows it went through 'okay' but the frm still shows as the previous VIN number in NCS Expert. I guess its not going to update using tool32?

Hi I ran c_fg_schrieben and entered the VIN with the letter on the end and Tool32 confirmed this as 'Okay'
Then I repeated it with c_fg_auftrag which confirmed it went 'Okay' aswell. NCS Expert FRM still shows the previous VIN number so I guess this hasn't worked properly? and would need to be done via WinKFP? |

Hi sorry to bother you again. I've managed to borrow a battery charger but I'm having a few issues with WinKFP. I don't have enough characters to enter the full VIN number with the checksum in it. It will only let me enter 17 characters into the field. The FRM2 also has a different ZUSB number than my one which was produced in 03.10.2008 3452677. I would guess the v.66.0_SP-Daten might be to new to be flashed onto the module? and older datens for that specific module would be difficult to obtain?

Also don't worry too much about datens. Just use comfort mode and update zusb. Winkfp will auto select the correct files. |

Hi many thanks for the help my car now has no error codes when it starts up! I actually found the coding really straight forward and have saved myself a lot of money as I was quoted about £500 from the Mini garage to get a new FRM fitted and coded.
