Installed: Snow Performance - Water / Meth Injection
I finished the install earlier in the week but I wanted to make sure everything was functioning as planned before posting.
My goal for the water / meth was not necessarily additional HP but rather additional safety for the motor. I ran a similar system on my 350Z so i was a little familiar with WI going in. The base kit is from Snow Performance (ptn#20010) http://www.snowperformance.net/product.php?pk=8 The kit consists of the pump, hose, fittings, reservoir, nozzles and Variable Controller. Controller is MAP based so you feed it a vacuum / boost line and then you can set what PSI you want for the injection to begin and what PSI you want for it to reach max. I have mine set to begin at 7PSI and it reaches full potential by 12PSI and holds for anything above that. Some of the things I added to the kit: Snow Performance Solenoid (ptn#40060) http://www.snowperformance.net/product.php?pk=20 The Solenoid it put in line after the pump and is connected so that it opens when the pump is activated and closes as soon as pump stops. This prevents the water from siphoning out of the line under vacuum. The Snow Kit lacks something that I felt was necessary...The base kit comes with an LED that you wire into the 12V signal that is sent from the controller to the pump. This means when the controller tuns the pump on the LED lights up. Pretty basic. BUT, if there is no water the pump is still going to activate and that same LED will still come on even though there is no water flowing. The same is true if you have a clog. The LED will come on regardless of whether or not water is actually being injected. Because of this I added a Cooling Mist Flow / Status Sensor http://coolingmist.com/detailmain.aspx?pid=05 What this sensor does is it goes inline between the solenoid and injector. I have it wired to a second LED and it will light up when it actually detects water pressure (which you can adjust sensitivity) and it goes off when no water is present i.e. not injecting. AND if you have a clog, it will stay lit even after the pump is off because it will still detect that there is still water / pressure in the line. Its a bit bulky but where I decided to mount everything it was not a problem at all. Installation: The install is not that difficult, just time consuming because of the amount of disassembly necessary to mount things where I wanted. basically this is what I did... 1. tapped factory windshield washer reservoir with injection line. 2. mounted pump and solenoid / sensor assembly behind bumper right under kidneys. 3. mounted injector (375ml) in the output pipe from Spearco Intercooler. 4. mounted variable controller under the cover on drivers side (where brake fluid reservoir is ) 5. ran wires across back side firewall and into cabin through the access under the ECU box. 6. Mounted power switch and status LEDs in center console Overall I was very pleased with the outcome. Runs great and functions just as I planned. Everything is invisible under the hood and using the factory windshield washer reservoir means I get a dashboard signal when the water level is low. I am currently running a 50/50 mix of water meth along with 93 octane. |

Stupid question... Since you used the windshield washer reservoir does that mean you cant wash you windshield anymore?

Nice install & Pics!! Thanks!
What are your plans for tune? Are you planning some dyno runs? I understand installing w/i or a/i for safety, but that's usually coincident adding boost / leaning the mix because you're adding insurance against detonation... sooooooo What's going on? cabin installs look really great, btw. very clean. |

it'd be a waste to install a WI/meth kit for "security" on an already safe tune. but hey, to each their own. either way, thumbs up on doing it yourself.. i come from the subaru community where were all DIYers. ever since i came on here and met a few BMers they're the money type that pay to play. not me, i build it and then abuse it. either way... |

All by itself he won't see a big difference. That's why I asked about what is tuning plans are. He'll reap higher safe boost ceiling, lower EGT and more timing advance room from this, which is where the power is hiding. I'd be shocked if he pursued W/I and didn't plan to look for ANY gains (unless he's already tuned to the wire, and is looking to back it off. Either way, I'd still want to fine tune the system after install. |

I plan to dyno this week probably Thursday... I will do some runs with and without. The car feels extremly strong with it so I'm sure there are some gains there, probably minimal but gains not the less.

It would be a shame not to take advantage of the extra power. So, how long was the install?

I'm still confused as to why you and others are running these purely MAP based since our pressure drops off at high rpms, you should want more injection at high rpms and 10 psi then 3k and 14psi. But you will have less.
