My manual says operating temp is 100c, which is 2 ticks bellow middle of gauage.
Do you consider flooring the car as soon when it reaches 100c or should I wait? Last edited by TheMidnightNarwhal; 08-06-2018 at 09:43 AM.. |

I floor it right after startup, though I live my life a 1/4 mile at a time.

I saw another post where they said like 150 Fahrenheit is good, I don't understand why the USA values seem so lower where they say it's ok to push it ? |

When the gauge moves off of 160F, I give it the business, never before. 96,000 miles of reliability from my N55 so far.

I don't really care what the manual says, 0W-40 at 160F is working really well so there is no worry as far as I am concerned. I emailed the Mobil1 tech center regarding this issue years ago and they confirmed that 160F is warm enough.

I guess maybe the temp in the manual was for the oil it had originally and now today oil tech is better. I'll check the oil I buy when I do a change this weekend and I guess I'll go by that to! |

As soon as the gauge starts moving, so @ 160 F. Never before.

The 200-210 F range might be the ideal temp, but I have no concern of doing any damage between 160-200 F.

Also, I'm sure the engineers accounted for the fact that your average driver wouldn't think about this kind of stuff and just gets in and starts boosting out of the driveway

I always try to wait for the temp gauge to move before hammering on it. I know that at 160 F the oil is at a good working temp and no abnormal damage should be done at that temp from the oil being too cold/thick.

Once it's about 2 ticks above cold, never before for me. 165k on one original turbo (one was replaced at 22k) and running just as strong as new.

Just like several other guys here, the moment my needle moves off the bottom of the gauge (160F) its go time. At this point the coolant has been to full 212F operating temp for several minutes.
