what's up guys, awesome topic!

first off thanks to the OP for trying this out. I think it looks great and it shows that it can be done as a DYI project if you have patience and some skill. plus you save a lot of money in labor in the process.

second, thanks to all the pro's for posting about the pitfalls of using vinyl that's not meant to be used as vehicle wrap. you're saving us who don't know any better from unknowingly applying something that will damage our paint over time.

for the pros I think I speak for everyone when I say that any extra information is appreciated. help on buying the right products and some install tips would be great. if anything you can make money on us by selling us the vinyl and supplies I personally do everything on my car myself from installing my supercharger kit to stereo work to polishing and waxing, whatever. you're not losing business by helping me since I would never pay someone to vinyl wrap my car in the first place. I would however buy materials and supplies from a helpful company also like you've mentioned it's not like everyone can actually do this successfully anyway, so you may gain the business in the end even after helping us.

maybe put together a package where it's the vinyl, squeegees, razor blades, directions, and whatever cleaning liquids are needed for a complete install for someone who's starting from scratch. I know I'd be interested just to know I was doing it with the right vinyl and that I wouldn't hurt anything if I left the wrap on for more than a couple of months.

for everyone else I found some good info on this site...

http://getcarbonfiber.com/vinyl-wrap...tructions.html

http://getcarbonfiber.com/images2/Ve...stallation.pdf

they seem to have a bunch of good info on there and they sell the good 3M stuff that's meant for vehicle wrapping. they also sell 3M's dry carbon fiber looking vinyl which has caught my eye looking through their blogs they've wrapped some sick cars, Lambo's, BMW's, Aston Martin's, cool stuff, it's worth checking it out just to see those cars.

OP: How's the vinyl holding up? Is it lifting anywhere? How's it holding up to the elements?

Thanks,

Steve

here's some shots of it from this place that sells the good 3M vinyl.
http://www.importcarpartsplus.com/3mdinoc.htm

I'm getting ready to wrap my car in the same carbon fiber stuff, personally I think it's cool and worst case you just peel it off.

here's a link for good 3M vehicle wrap matte vinyl...
http://getcarbonfiber.com/matte-flat...nyl-wrap-film/

here's another link to the 3M carbon fiber stuff. this place has lots of good info and all the tools you need. plus they have the 3M stuff to help keep the edges from lifting and the vinyl spray cleaner...

There really isn't anything available in north america for matte vinyls. Your best bet is to purchase 3M's 200 Series with the controltac adhesive and have it laminated with a matte overlam. 3M has two colours of blue that come with controltac, Saphire Blue (which is a darker blue) and Olympic Blue (which is an ugly lighter blue).

By using a multi-layered product, it will help the laymen install it. Without a laminate, you will run into trouble. Besides the laminate will protect the finish and won't leave marks from applying too much pressure when installing it.

Looking For Wrap Ideas?

To everyone that might want to do something else other than a matte finish wrap, check out www.fellers.com

They will sell to anyone and give advice as to which products you should use to do the job right.

I have done work with fellers in the past, and they are a great bunch to deal with.

How well does the 3M DiNoc hold up in the real world?

I am thinking of wrapping my roof in this fake carbon look. But I am worried bc #m says it is watter resistant, and NOT water proof! What happens when it rains for week and I have to park outside? I do have a garage.. but I also have to work! lol

Thanks
