it's the hard truth man. there is service at 50K and 100K. if I had 8 yr old bmw that was close to 100K .. I'd RUN... which is why we saw the brave comment. chance are the previous owner was "caring" caring of his wallet. and got rid of the money pit before or while it was digging for gold. After the new owner dumps 2k or so into 100K maint. there no guarantee the engine wont have a fit, electronics take a dump and other stupid things that happen.

Hell I got rid of mine at 35K because I didn't enjoy the unresolved problems and wasn't looking forward to dropping $1K at 50K

to the OP sorry for the doom and gloom, sometimes bmw cars last or maybe they last because the owner is a wrench Either way good luck !

OP Buying that car with 100+k on it is like opening a cane of WORMS,so many things to replace/update.

my advise..Do the math...Return this car and buy CPO and drive without any worries

Preventive maintenace wont hurt - oil, antifreeze, brake flush, diff and tranny fluid, air filter, etc.. I would check for leaks if any, and fix those. Common problems are VCG, Oil filter housing, oil pan, rear main seal. First two are very DIY'able, the other two require tools and commitment. If oil pan gasket is leaking, subframe has to come down. While its down, replace water pump and thermo. Rear main transmission has to be dropped, perfect time to replace clutch if manual. I have done both of these jobs on X3, PIA but doable.

Monitor oil consumption after oil change, and if it is excessive then you need to start tracking it down. PCV upgrade, leaks, or more serious engine wear problems

Dont listen to people on here that tell you replace your cat and mifflers?? WTF - I have never heard of that as preventive maintenance.

Suspension tune up may be needed, but I would drive it until you start feeling.hearing issues. Then upgrade to coilovers and do bushings while you are at it. No reason why you cant get another 100k out of it if it is properly maintained.

Don't be scared, I'm at 120k miles now, in my 08 e90 335xi, sees about 1,000 miles a week as a daily driver. Don't replace stuff that isn't bad. Only big things for me over 100k miles has been water pump & thermostat. Although my car has been well taken care of.

1. Get service records
2. Google BMW 60k maintenance and 100k maintenance. I would do everything on those lists if they weren't done already. Main thing is spark plugs (if it wasn't done at 60k), tranny flush at 100k, oil change, and micro filter. It would be wise to walnut blast the valves if it wasn't done because direct injection gets caked up deposits. You'll have a smoother idle with the valve cleaning.
3. Unless your steering is screwed up, squeeking, bad handling... no reason to do bushings and control arms.

how do I clean intake valves and intercooler ?
any suggestions on how to clean the fuel system ?
why do you think the valve cover gasket needs to be changed ? do I need special BMW tools for that ?

The Rob PCV valve is a crankcase solenoid valve thing that helps to efficiently release crankcase pressure. This should reduce oil blow by and keep the motor happy. I'm not really tech savvy about it but it's inexpensive and easy to install and all around good reviews. More info can be found here:

Google intake valve cleaning or walnut blasting. Essentially you take off the intake manifold and clean out the chambers where the intake valves are. It's a semi-common thing to do on these cars. It'll just give the engine a bit more pep and responsiveness, can be done at same time as intake manifold gasket and PCV solenoid.

Intercooler I'd just spray with a foaming radiator cleaner. It won't really do much honestly but it can't hurt. You can easily skip this. I just have the spray already for cleaning my house's A/C radiator coils.

I use Lucas fuel treatment cleaner. Just one tiny bottle from any store for one tank of fuel. Dunno if it really helps just for peace of mind. Unnecessary to use it more than once.

The valve cover gaskets just become brittle over time and leak oil, usually into the spark plug wells. It's one of those, do it while you're cleaning the intake valves, jobs.

Setyour trip odometer to 0, and check every 100 miles to see if the oil level drops. If lets say it drops 1 notch every 500 miles, than your consumption is approximately 1 quart per 2000 miles.. Good insight to health of your engine..

Some people are a little over the top, My first car was a 1992 325i and I ran it up to 180,000km and still sold it and they ran another 40k till they totalled it ( sold it to a friend of a friend)


My advice stick to the basics for now and keep a watch/listen for anything else:

-Because you never know when they last changed fluids I would start there

Motor oil, Tranny

-with a 335 it's hard not to punch it at times and we are in summer so flush and replace coolant

-Safety come after speed so brake fluids and rotor/ pad check

-Personally I would swap the battery just to have peace of mind

-Take a peek at your filters ( air intake, cabin, etc..)

-And make sure the tires are free of any unusual wear or tear, if you see one side fading fast then the other I would say get a alignment.

That will be a good start down the path of love between u n your 335

Ohhh and forgot , just like budda you should rub the front emblem before you start it, My 335 loves that and has kept me problem free.

Any high end car will cost you, but they see less troubles then most. Plan ahead and take measures to prevent failure, also act upon any problem asap before its a real problem

Yeah, i have a '07 335i with 102k it runs like a CHAMP. It was purchased used a year and a half ago with 87k.

Since then, I have replaced the spark plugs and cabin filter on my own. I'm about to complete my 2nd oil change this coming week. I think that I am also due for new brake pads. But everything is smooth. The previous owner took real good care of it. Service levels seems to have been maintained appropriately. My next steps are to check the other fluids.

I will probably come across other stuff as I begin to mod it out, but I wouldn't worry. Some of these previous posts seemed a bit ridiculous. What this guys said just before me seems legit comparatively. Cheers!
