my friend said craigslist is more common there. In Burnaby he said everyone rents out their basement/self contained unit, although not legal. Everyone do it due to housing cost $$ and no one cares.

Where will you be working? How long are you willing to travel to/from work everyday? Assuming you are working downtown, Rent could range from 3-600$ in difference living DT vs east or south van/richmond/burnaby/coq.
Working out of downtown will be very helpful if you can help it. Cost of living would be a lot less. |

Thank you so much for your feedback everyone. Please keep them coming. I really appreciate the pointers and letting me know which area(s) to keep away from, even though Bladerunner speaks highly of a certain area lol.
I would just be asking for a straight transfer from my current company so it will be downtown.

theres also a skytrain that connects you from either richmond to vancouver or vancouver all the way to west coquitlam. Maybe search for a place within walking distance to a skytrain station? Its vancouver's subway system with frequency of every 5 mins or so each station during peak hours

lived in vancouver for 15yrs or so. depending on what you're looking for, kits is nice and the downtown west end. but, you can get a lot more for your money by living 20min from downtown, port moody/burnaby and such. all in all, it's a rad place to live.

As previously mentioned, try someplace on the Skytrain line - Burnaby or New Westminster. The commute is pleasant, the Skytrain travels above ground.
You may contact a BC real estate agent that handles residential leasing, or possibly check UBC, SFU or college for rental information for a semi-temp place and see where you might want to live after being there for a while. Good luck!

Sucks to hear that crap hit the fan for you in life. I had a similar experience happen several years back and decided to do a reset on life as well but in my case I stayed and got through it with a couple of really good friends and just taking a break from the world a bit. You don't always have to physically leave in order to step away and reset, like a lot of things in life it's mostly mental. Anyway, whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck and hopefully things turn out well for you. |

Come down to Richmond, nice place with great food and convenient transportation. Although traffic is sometimes badly jammed by elderly people who don't know how to drive, but it is a safe community.
