Mod 77 - Sub Woofer Install

Have not been that happy with the audio upgrade (mod 73)
Lacked bass and the tuning was a mess
Ended up buying an E93 sub woofer system and listed it in the forum, but no one was interested in it so, I installed it myself

Main bits that went in were an Alpine pdx 1.6 amp, an Alpine type R 10 sub woofer in a sealed custom made E93 box and a mess load of heavy duty stinger cabling lol

Spent hours trying to work out why the SW amp would not power up, figuring out how the speakers were bridged and getting the tuning right. Still need it to be tuned professionally and to get the sub woofer properly mounted. But everything is in, operational and now 30 - 175 Hz range is filling out the sound stage

Doof doof doof

Pic 1 - Step 1 - Strip out boot lining
Pics 2 to 4 - Step 2 - Connect power and test, then hit the internet when it wont fire up
Pic 5 - Step 3 - Find out you need a rem-in line to tell amp to wake up (face palm)
Pic 6 - Step 4 - Run tuning software 30 times until to you get it right
Pic 7 - Step 5 - Unplug and re-route because amp wont fit where you were planning to mount it
Pic 8 - Step 6 - Mount amp in new location and reinstall all the boot trim
Pic 9 - Step 7 - Strap down sub woofer with ocky straps as a temp mounting solution

Done

Interesting.
I currently run a precision 6266 (Gen1 BB) on my GTR which is only a 2.6L (albeit a built 2.6L) and it has better response (approx. 500rpm better) compared to the old twin setup and makes 430kw at all 4 wheels only on 21psi and 98ron pump fuel (getting it setup for e85 and a flex tune very soon ).

With the 335i being a 3 litre, if you go a 6262 in the newer Gen2 version (which is supposed to spool even quicker then the previous gen), then it is going to come on boost pretty hard and fast
Should make for a fun drive

Mod 78 - P3 Vent Gauge

While some peeps say you don't need one, I like boost gauges

First guage was the JB4 gauge hijacking of the oil temp on the dash. Not really very accurate and not having the oil temp displayed was a pita

Next was a ECS boost gauge from the US. It only came in LHD and it annoyed the hell out of me that the dial was always facing the passenger side So ripped it out and went back to the JB4 until I removed the JB4 when I switched to MHD

Looked seriously at an Adwon in vent system, but the price is insane and there is some doubt if they work properly with heavily modded E92

Finally got around to fitting the P3 I got from Will a couple of weeks back (thanks Will ) which provides a digital gauge, as well as coolant temp and a few other handy readouts....

While I realize, you can get the same displays on a phone, I prefer the clean look of the integrated solution thanks

Pics below

Pic 1 - P3 kit including useless instruction manual
Pic 2 - Boost line routed into engine bay
Pics 3 to 6 - Installing the screen in vent
Pic 7 - Feeding wiring harness through the dash
Pic 8 - Plug harness into port
Pics 9 & 10 - Install complete

Might save myself say $10-15k by doing so!

so effectively a ST install could be 'free'!

This is true if your logic was not flawed... you still need to spend the $10-15K.. you just don't need to spend it twice
