Ugghhhh......Steering column lock and CAS module failure

Well the steering column finally locked up completely. I was able to save some money by ordering it from Tisher and saved a $100 or so on that part...........but now the CAS module has failed and will be raped by the local parts store with that one............oh well........can't wait to get my baby back..........oh yeah.......wanted to charge $900 labor to replace my valve cover gasket............think i'll do that one myself.........

After all this I still love my BMW.........Hope to get it back next week

Steering column lock light

Looks like I have the same problem as you do/did -- but mine is very intermittent, still yellow, and can still be corrected by moving the steering wheel. Today I pulled codes and two appeared under the Car Access System -- A116 (ELV ECU absorption error) and A112 (ELV ECU HW Steering Lock error).

I also was guilty of not initially registering my new battery, but eventually did after a year when I bought a Bavarian Technic OBD kit -- and that was about a year ago.

How expensive and difficult is it to replace the CAS module ? Where did you buy yours ? I'm also in SC, near Greenville..

Thanks for help,

Cliff

I had to have the dealer do the CAS. They wouldn't let me purchase it, said it was a "dealer" only part. I had to prove I owned my car before they would install it. I did order my steering column from Tischer and saved over $100, but as far as the CAS you are stuck. Dealer only.
