Well done.. Great idea. I'm going to have to order that display and see what I can come up with.. I agree with you, it should be very close to your normal field of view..

At first I had my concealed display in the ashtray but it was too distracting to look down at it every time. Now I have it above the steering column, its not as clean as the install in the vent, but I like that I can still use the mute button and it is right near all the gauges.

Thought I'd give a plug to a member I knew in my Audizine days: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZagravic

He does some cool custom V1 stuff. I may end up getting a V1 mute cable from him and see if I can somehow retrofit that into one of the useless buttons on the steering wheel.... like the voice button or the AC recirc button.

Using one of the useless steering wheel buttons is an awesome idea. I also like that modified concealed display, the cable in the back makes it look much cleaner.

Slot #14

Can not find the fuse tap in local store, I just connect the power cable to the fuse directly, then put the fuse to the slot. I use a empty slot #14. It works well.

Couldn't figure out how to use one of the steering wheel buttons for a mute switch so I was going to put it on the dead pedal. Tried pulling on the dead pedal, and broke off the tab holding it in... That idea was gone.

I ended up making a mute cable and there is now a tiny switch sticking out of my shift boot, just under the shift knob. A convenient, but a little bit destructive solution. I cut a 1/8" slit in the leather boot and shoved the tiny momentary switch through. It works great though and my pinky mutes it just fine.

For the sake of agravic (on ebay), I won't post instructions on how to make a mute cable. If you search hard enough you can find out how, but I suggest people to purchase one from him on ebay. My soldering job came out like crap, and I really didn't spend much less than if I had bought a cable from him.

Great post, by the way. Did the install this weekend. FYI... I have the fuse tap going to slot #7, which is one of the two homelink slots on the 335xi. Worked perfectly!

Slot number 7... perfect. FYI... the homelink is actually mapped to two slots in my 08 model. Number 7 and another number (I think it's 63 or something). Anyway, the other slot did not work properly - the V1 power remained on even when the ignition was turned off. When I tried slot 7, with the fuse tap pointing to the right (as pictured), it worked great.

Awesome thread!

Yup yup. Did it last night. Ended up being slightly more work than I thought it would be, but it all worked out anyway. For '08+ owners, use slot #7 like kruz and liliej say and show in the picture. I had to cut away a little bit of the plastic the the left of it to ensure a solid fit, but it worked out perfecting in the end anyway. Super stoked!

I want to know if you guys installed the new hardwire device in parallel or in series? That depends on how you connect the fuse tap terminals to the fuse box. I've done mine in parallel.

Which is the better way?
Parallel!!! If you do series, and the fuse for the accessory you are tapping blows, the device you have added will not work either.

Nice drawing by the way! What software is that?

Behind the glove box. There's two "wing nut" looking things that you turn 1/4 turn, at which point you can pull the back panel of the glove box off. The fuse box is directly behind that panel.

Yep. One piece of advice is to go find a neighbor with a 10 year old kid so that their arms actually fit through the opening..

I do what I can to contribute.

If you think you need small arms/hands to get at the fusebox, just wait until you run the remote out the back of the fuse panel and through the venting.

I was upside down with my legs over the headrest.

Interesting.. Usually I reserve that position for my female passengers, but hey, I guess whatever works..

Modified ashtray mount. I didn't want to lose the power outlet.
