2009 e90 auto 325d crankcase breather

Hi

Could do with some advice?

I was thinking about replacing my crankcase breather. Should I stick with a bmw or Febi replacement or one at less than half the price by say jc premium (never heard of them)?

The reason for the replacement Im losing oil(but there is no sign of any leaks)

I spoke to several people and they have told me that my car does not have the loo roll filter or the vortex type- but is it a good idea to change it anyway?

Thanks in advance

I replaced mine not so long ago. I think I noticed slightly less oil usage. Definitely worth doing just for peace of mind. I used a genuine one as they aren't really that expensive anyway.

The vortex type filter is just a plastic, what is the purpose of changing it?

it has a cartridge in it,this can be replaced, but it aint worth it,change the whole casing as they can fatigue and crack.it may look like it aint got anything in it..also if it aint got a cartridge it may of been a loo roll one and someone took it out,,or took cartridge out

The ones for M57N2 are empty inside, no vortex, no loo roll, if you buy the part number shown in realoem 11127794597 you will get an empty filter. BMW stopped using the vortex cartridge (seen in red in the image)when the M57 LCI was launched , so in my understanding the whole purpose of replacing the crankcase breather is useless when there is only a plastic.

the palstic does not last forever,it degrades and can crack, just get it out and have a gander at it,easy job although quite a few bits to take off..
