Winrar or 7zip will alert you if there is anything wrong with your source files. If that's the case "forcing re-check" in utorrent should resolve it.

Success! Finally I was able to update my CIC to 2016-1 after several tries. Lesson learned: Do not use an USB extender to attach the flash drive to the port in the glove box but instead, you must attach the drive directly to the port even though it's a PITA to get the drive in there especially if you have big hands.

Yeah, I used an extension cable also, but mine was only 8" long so it worked fine.

Some other notes:
- Any size/type USB seems to work, even 8GB if you can fit all the files on it. I used an 8GB micro SD card for "USB 2" and a 128GB pen drive hack-formatted to FAT32 for "USB 3"
- You can start/stop the car anytime and drag the process out for days, but if you do, it will want to briefly look at the first 2 drives again for a few seconds each time it resumes, so you'll need 3 drives.
- The "config.nfm" file is the same for all 3 sets so I tried loading everything onto one USB drive. It worked and automatically cranked thru USB2 and USB3 without stopping but ended up corrupt in my case. Maybe because of the process or maybe my files were corrupt. Either way it was a pain to fix because there is no way to force a re-load of the same map.

I guys.
I've done everything like OP wrote, but the code that was generated was incorrect.
I copy the file from cic, then on HxD did the cut procedure, after that saved the file as a.hex, check is size, was 319 bytes. Then did the fsck command and the code that was wrote on code.txt as invalid for the cic.
Can you help me?
I'll post here my files:

http://dtype.no.sapo.pt/generalPersi...cSWTController

http://dtype.no.sapo.pt/a.hex

The incorrect code is:
MAP FSC for Europe: PYSH2YSHFJGHCABIAADQ

Command line was fsc.exe a.hex 0x28 0x07 >code.txt
0x28 for Europe
0x07 for 2015

Can you help me?
I'm running VM Windows 7 32bits on my macbook pro Yosemite.
I've tried to change a.hex with base64.exe but never get a good code.

The year code isn't always consistent. You could try 0x08, 0x09, etc. but there's no need. Just use 0xFF for lifetime activation.

I've tried with 0xFF and same result. Now I've tried to do the fsc command as help on command said "fsc.exe fscfile mapcode yearcode vin". With vin I get a different code. I will try this tomorrow. Did you ever tested with vin on fsc command?

DType, you're generating keys for a Premium map but your profile lists a 2007 model, are you sure you have the right map type?

It's not my car, my car is e91 2007 cic retrofitted and navigation is scrip activated, on my car I can read fsc and generate code with dr. Gini or other. This one is for my friends e90 2010, with oem cic. Can you help me? I downloaded the file from chrome via ftp. Read somewhere that need to download file binary mode and not ascii mode. I don't now how to change it. Now I installed an ftp client on my MacBook and will try to read file again. I've tried many fsc generator software and all codes are wrong

In my experience the fsc program will generate an empty code.txt file if there's anything wrong with the 1b file so I expect your issue is somewhere else. Make sure both the new map and the old map are "Premium" and try non-lifetime years like 0x0A, assuming you're trying to load 2015-2.

I've tried 0x07 because this is 2015, tried lifetime, nothing. Tried with base64 to encode for other fsc generators and always same results. I compare my, and other goods fsc files with this one and I've seen that in the beginning of file, all good fsc files is the same, and then they have vin number. I've changed this fsc like mine, with the same beginning of the file, and the code is always wrong. Don't know what else I can try

Script activated CIC units cannot be updated via FSC code and the normal process.

You need to check with your retrofit vendor on the procedure to upgrade the maps. Typically it involves manually FTPing the navigation files into the Headunit.

Basically script activation breaks all standard upgrade mechanisms in the CIC which is why script activation works by breaking the FSC validation process in the unit.

Mine is script activated and I've upgraded maps myself with dr.gini. Read fsc and generated new code. This problem it's not on mine cic. This is a cic on a friends car, an e90 with oem cic, no retrofit. Don't know what else can try. Could be the way I downloaded the file from the cic?

0x28 0x07 isn't Europe Premium 2015-2 either. That's Europe Premium 2014-1.

Dtype, your generalpersistency file is bad. Near the top of the file you should see stuff about "bmwgroup" and later in the file you should see the last 7 VIN digits just below the 1b stuff. As mentioned earlier in the thread, maybe Chrome doesn't work for this?

Thanks vespa.
So what's the best way for download the file? Can you send me a good file so I can compare what you are pointing about bmwgroup?
I installed a ftp client on my Mac and will try to read file again, or I will install scp on VM with windows and download just like your guide explains.

Don't use an FTP client it will change your key size by adding hex that are not part of the original file and you will generate incorrect FSC.

First Key size is 81 to include the "00" separator and the next key is 80. I can guarantee you extracted the correct length but since your 1b file is bad you will not get it to work.

Use Internet Explorer and download using Save-As.

For anyone not sure of what parameters to use for your map and year (that get fed into fsc.exe), you can view the hex on the Info_Map.imp file. This file is in the INFO_MAP* directory.

Code:
0000000: a100 0004 d3ff 0230 002d 000b 0000 5c62 .......0.-....\b
0000010: 0301 0025 526f 6164 204d 6170 204e 6f72 ...%Road Map Nor
0000020: 7468 2041 6d65 7269 6361 2050 5245 4d49 th America PREMI
0000030: 554d 2032 3031 362d 31 UM 2016-1
Here you can see 002d 000b. So for North America Premium 2016-1 you would use 0x2d and 0x0b as the map and year inputs for fsc.exe.

Hope this helps folks.

I just made a cable with the pdf from this thread. (thanks for the detailed step by step). I've triple checked the continuity in the wires and pins and also made sure theres a stable reading in the 510ohm resistor. Its actually sitting a 507ohm. Changed all the settings on the ethernet port on laptop, but when I plug into the car my network icon in taskbar remains red crossed out and when I try to login using firefox or I.E, it doesnt connect.

Anyone have any suggestions

Thanks
