$15 isn't crazy for an oil filter, neither is $10 for a single quart of oil... IF that is really the price... but when the real price if $8.50 for the oil filter and $5.40 for a quart of oil, why just give your money away... that's and extra $40 you could put to new MODS

Well I can't argue with numbers like that....$40 would almost fill the tank for me

And my last oil 2 days ago I got my filter under the counter LOL....and I promptly racked up almost 400 miles in a day...jeez.

I just did an oil change at the 1500 mile marker. The oil came out completely black. I am really glad I didn't wait till my 15k free service.

YES THEY ARE!!!
I went back to my parts dept. Dropped my BMWCCA membership card on the desk, then asked how much for a quart of oil. he said $8.50 a quart and acted like he was giving me the deal of a lifetime. I pulled the cataloge off his shelf, showed him the MSRP of $5.40 in the catalogue and all he could say was "I don't pay that much for oil.."... I resisted in saying "No sh-t, you pay less..." but decided to give all my parts $$$ to another shop who sold me a filter for $8 and oil for $4.85... needless to say, I bought a couple of filters and two cases of oil... BMWNA says the parts dept are owned seperately than the BMW Shops.. Ok fine, but they are giving BMW a BAD BAD name... They wouldn't get even close to an all 5's in my book... luckily BMWNA doesn't have that on their checklist, but I did tell em than in the comments...

ps: tischer bmw is having a special - 10 filters for $75 with free shipping...

Yeah, that's insane. But not unique. I called around Phoenix to the three dealerships and found this:

Chapman BMW on Camelback: $11.20

Chapman BMW on McDowell: $14.34

BMW North Scottsdale: $19.60 Are they out of their fucking minds?

This kind of pricing discrepancy is what is pissing everyone off. BMW needs to straighten this crap out.

Seriously... until they do, I'm ordering all my filters online. Seems to be the way to go. Oh yeah, thanks to the two who took the pictures and did the write up. Bought some rhino ramps and the oil change went very smoothly.

I have no idea what the problem is, but it came after my oil change so I thought I'd post it here. My car shudders sometimes in gear and I feel a tremendous loss of power. When that happens, I pull over, turn my car off, turn it back on again, and the problem seems to go away. This happened to me again today on the way home from work. Any idea what the problem could be?

I just paid $14 and change at my BMW parts department, but since they are the only game in town I guess the price isn't too bad. I'll order a few online next time, but I just wanted to change the oil today because I just clocked 1250 miles.

My dealer hooked me up with employee pricing! Filter and oil ended up costing $40. Not bad!

Does your car crank for a long time before starting?

Exclamation I thought oil changes were free for 4yrs/50k miles...??

The dealerships have nicely made-up props on each CA's desk showing scheduled maintenance for a Lexus is $450 (I think) and BMW scheduled maintenance cost is $0 over the same period. So if all scheduled maintenance is "included" for 4/50k, how can they charge us?

Nice write up.

What kind of ramps are you guys using for the e92 sport pack.?

What is the degree angle and what it the size of the ramps and height?

I found some race ramps the are for low profile cars, but they are Like $175.

I've got a set of Rhino Ramps that worked fine pre-aero lip - http://www.rhinoramps.com/product.html - but I haven't done an oil change since I installed the lip.

no time to buy ramps

anyone have tips on using jack stands? Where to locate... where to locate jack ? I hate to damage any of the plastic covers underneath the car ! I have read all of this thread.... currently have 4300 miles on it...and sick about not changing it after 1200. Have the oil and filter...just need to get if in the air a bit... no time to order ramps...

any advice appreciated !!

I found I couldn't get up on the ramps because the lip hit the ramp before the tire. I used a couple of 2x4 boards about 24" long to get the nose up a little before the lip hit the ramp. Biggest issue was the ramps sliding. I had to jam some cinder blocks behind them, despite the fact that the ramps have the rubber feet.
