FWIW: When I set the latency setting to 4 milliseconds, my connection was much better and I did not get any errors. 1 millisecond did not work for me at all, 16ms (the default) was error prone. Obviously YMMV. I am running Windows XP with SP3, 32 bit on an old laptop.
The latency setting would depend on the circuit board in your cable. For most people 1ms works great, but I guess there are some cables who need the bigger latency setting.

This thread started in 2012. Is the zip file still valid and instructions up to date? Plan on coding injectors this weekend. I'm reading you can install XP Mode on Windows 7 64bit and do Virtual PC.

go to the coding subforum...wildcat created an easy diy and keeps that thread updated with the latest files/software

I went there. Seems pretty involved. There's multiple methods discussed for various operating systems. Some talk about VirtualBox method too. Some talk about VMware. I'm guessing the V3 does installations on all Windows?
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1220039

I think I will try the XP mode since that seems easiest for Windows 7.
Run in compatibility mode for windows xp SP3, also run as administrator.

You're way off...if you reread my reply, you should easily be able to find the thread I mentioned.

I was up, running, and coding injectors in 10 minutes.

Sorry if this is a noob question.
But does this work for all DME types?
I noticed that only MSD80 pops up.
Should I assume the same process for MSD81.
Thank you

Vasil,

I'm having some issues with the install of the software. I'm using Windows 10.

So far I have done the following.

1) Installed the drivers for my INPA compatible D-CAN cable.
2) Determined that it is using COM3 for the port.
3) Changed the port settings to match your screenshots
4) Extracted the zip file to the C:

Setting up INPA
1) I've created the shortcut on my desktop

Here's where I'm running into problems.

In environmental variables I have more than two options but I do have TEMP and TMP as two of them. Looks like this :

https://photos.google.com/search/_tr...XZJx_COhhOqRt5

I highlight TEMP.
Then I highlight Path in the lower window and click Edit.

What I get then is a list of items that look like this :

https://photos.google.com/search/_tr...JR2G-PePVzmxj1

I created the last one that says C:\EDIABAS\BIN

What am I supposed to be appending because when I click edit on the path none of the options look like they are the path itself. I mean, the path says "C:\Windows\system32;C:\windows;C:\windows etc etc but none of the options in the edit window show the same string. They are all either %systemroot or C:\program files

Please can you explain this part a bit better.

Also, when I edit the .INI file I see this :

https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1Q...BakePGQ-JDNQjH

Am I changing the COM5 at the top to read COM3 ? (COM3 is my port as per device manager)
What about where it says COM2 at the bottom of the file ?

I replaced #6 injector last night with a slide hammer made out of a nut screwed onto the injector, a piece of threaded rod screwed into the nut, a large socket to slide up and down the rod and a nut on the end to stop the socket from sliding right off. Hey, it worked eventually. ;-)

Thanks
Will

Great Work

After 4 hours of setting up ports, software, chinese, german, old laptop, windows 7 64 bit, and every possible IT thing that could go wrong, I was able to limp into what may have been a successful calibration of my N54 fuel injectors - but not sure.

I ran your INPA app and saw the screen where I could pick E90 and then the German menu with "injector... something" and then when I entered the values from the new injectors, I saw some script errors so not sure it took. Engine is no longer "misfiring" but idle is less than ideal. Any thoughts why the script errors? I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

If you're using that 6 yr old link from the first post do yourself a huge favor and delete whatever the hell that is and download Standard tools from the bimmergeeks.net download section. With Win7 64bit it should literally take 10-15 minutes to install after you've unzipped it and read the instructions. It's one of the best versions of INPA out there.

Or just get the prebuilt VM if your having problems, it just works also!

That's a good option for Mac. It's a little overkill for Windows software on a Windows OS unless you're really having a hard time figuring out how to install it.

I'm having some problems with inpa. I have the bimmergeaks cable and tried both the standard tools download from their site and the VM posted above.

I have the cable set to com 1. It shows the battery is on but ignition is off when the car is running. It still seems to be able to read some things from the DME, but i get occasional errors depending on what I'm doing. And i can't code the injectors. Could i have a bad cable?

I think the shop that did my injectors coded them wrong. When i go to the injectors page a bunch of the numbers are slightly off. Does that definitely show the numbers that were programmed in? Or will the DME adjust them slightly based on conditions or other sensors?

Could having the number off by .01 or .02 cause misfires? I've been dealing with misfires on cyl 2 for months. Replaced plugs, coils, injectors, and did Walnut blasting. When i pick it up it runs fine then after maybe 50-75 miles the misfire starts again and then gets progressively worse. Take it back they fix and repeat.

My numbers were also a bit off, ex. 222 being coded as 2.20. When i tried to change it to 2.22, it defaulted to 2.20 anyway.

On another note, this software and PDF instruction work with Win 10 x64! I followed the instructions to the letter, and was able to code immediately. Thank you Vasil!!!

When I go to bimmergeeks I see three options.
Standard tools
Rheingold
SP-Datens

Do I need to download all three or just standard tools to code injectors. They make no bones about the fact that there are no instructions since this isn't their software etc.

TIA

You just need Standard Tools. Once you unzip it there's a instruction doc inside. Just follow it to the letter and you should be fine. If you're using Win10 remember to troubleshoot compatibility first before you run Std212.exe. You want it to run in Win7 compatibility mode. PM me if you have any questions/issues.

Red face diagnostic unit for injector coding

I am a newbee to the BMW world, and have learned a lot in my journey thus far, but still have much to learn. Right now I'm stuck on coding my index 12 swap 3 of which were already in the vehicle. I had a JB4 tuner which I have removed thinking that may have contributed to the issue of them not coding. I've been reading this forum on how you are coding them and I'm curious, because the Foxwell G65 diagnostic, and also the Snap-On legacy diagnostic units I have, both give me the options to code the injectors whether with or without the DCM being changed or not (I've tried both ways without success) , but keep coming back unsuccessful after adding the values into each cyl. Im not sure the issue except I see that a decimal is added to the value after watching video link from this forum, using different platform of course. I may try this as I've exhausted any options I have found. I have bought a K+DCAN cable just in case those platforms from diagnostic units are the issue. I guess my question is has anyone had the same or similar issues using these type units, and are they useless for this type coding?
