Any Recomendations for Windshield Replacement -- DC Metro

Any recomendations for a shop for windshield replacement? I have the automatic wiper sensor as well.

I've had my car for about a year now. It was a loaner for a year prior. The windshield has accumulated a number of small chips in it. I've had 8 year old cars that weren't this bad.

I'm considering having the windshield replaced. I haven't contacted my insurance yet as I want to get my ducks in a row first. Generally they'll take it as a claim if you have 5 or more chips.

Windshield City in Chantilly. Mike will hook you up. Let him know you heard about them from here. They replaced my friend's E46 M3 windshield last week and are open pretty late. Give them a call and he should have the glass within a day or two.

After looking at the options, I'll be going with Windshield City. They quoted a price almost half that of Safelite. I can also get a free VA safety and emissions inspection, which I'm due for anyway!

I'll post later about how it turns out.

For that price they might be using a non-OEM part. I used Safelite and made sure they ordered an OEM windshield, my quote installed was around $400.

You can also go through your insurance for Safelite as well.

I asked and it isn't OEM. The name of the brand escapes me, but it's manufactured in Germany. From what I see on my windshield, it hasn't held up well at all, so I don't mind passing up OEM.

The price is lower than my deductible too, but USAA would approve either shop.

Safelite man. No question. I went to their in-house location, and they finished in two hours. The quality of the windshield was just as good as OEM, if not the same.

If you're filling the claim with USAA, go with Safelite.

Freedom Glass is the best, they do all the windshields for porsche, audi, mercedes, bmw at briggs chaney autopark. He will work with insurance and can use BMW glass. I got charged $50 more for BMW glass. Contact Ken @ 240-674-7753

Just got my glass replaced on my e92 m3 a week ago, work was perfect! He comes to you too.

I went to Windshield City in Chantilly on Monday. I stayed in the shop and watched the whole process. It's a low key business, but they took their time and paid attention to the details. They've done several E90's and E46's.

They installed Guardian brand glass. It's manufactured in Germany. I didn't want to go with OEM because of the pitting that I had in mine. The main difference is that it has a blue-green tint at the top of the glass. I think it also has a slightly darker tint. You can see it in the pic below. Some may not like it. It goes well with the blue water metallic on my car.

This isn't my car, but the same people installed my windshield:

So overall, everything went well. The glass looks great. No wind noises at highway speeds. Everything is just as quiet as it was before.

+1 on Windshield City, they did a new windshield on my Dad's 2012 TL after a large rock hit the glass and spiderwebbed it. Mike is a great guy, used OEM glass, and the install was flawless.

I just went through this. Told my insurance I wanted to take it to a specific shop that did Saturday appointments and were very good - only to find after I got there they "forgot" to order the molding which holds the windshield in place, so they could not perform the work.

I then called insurance and told them I'd go with Safelite. Not only was it MUCH cheaper than the shop ($2 difference between OEM and non-OEM glass), I had a very knowledgeable service rep who did everything flawless. He also came out to my apartment and performed the replacement as opposed to me driving somewhere. I was able to stand and watch over every detail - an option you likely don't get if you drive your car to a shop.

Go with Safelite but whoever you take it to, DON'T FORGET TO TELL THEM TO ORDER THE MOLDING.
