Excellent news. Carry on with OFT. If the maps are open source, then I can see why it's called OpenFlash.

I was afraid that everything was closed. Now that I know it isn't, I think I can rest easy.

@shiv, for those of us running the old bad dme flash for the flex fuel; if we send in our dme to get reflashed is it free of charge? Or do we all have to pay you again?

Real Flexfuel

Looks like the better choice is running the walbro 392 (for less than $100) and getting a custom dyno tune is a better option right now.
Not sure why everyone is struggling with all this flexfuel stuff. I have the Advanced Fuel Dynamics system on my M5 and it literally plugs in, no other mods or tunes and you go stuff the tank full of corn. Most of this thread seems to be about E85 tunes, which are not really flexfuel. With my setup I can run whatever fuel, E85, gas, mixed, doesn't matter. My setup changes up the settings for whatever mix of fuel I have in the tank.

Probably due to the fact that people who have modded to the extreme have no need for flex fuel since they probably run full e85 with PI. On the other end of the spectrum are people who are lightly modded with no desire to add more power as FBO on pump gas is “good enough” with no reason to go for a custom ethanol tune and LPFP upgrade with lines and a sensor. I hope to install their solution one day since I have everything needed already... just hasn’t been a priority since I have access to E85 locally.

I guess a lot of progress has been made the past five years.

I love Motiv/MHD's flex fuel setup. Works flawlessly and make good power. Nice to be able to run an ethanol blend when I want and straight gas when I can't find ethanol.

Motiv vs AFD

I looked at the MHD set-up before I got my flexfuel system from Advanced Fuel Dynamics. What I like about my set-up is that I can switch from gas to E85 anytime, which I don't think the MHD system will handle without map switching manually. I also like the inline fuel sensor. Some of the other systems out there use the O2 sensors to sense fuel content, but that signal comes off exhaust gasses, so it's historical data. The inline fuel sensor senses what fuel is about to hit the injectors, not what happened a few miles back. I've heard that if E85 is not managed properly you can do a lot of damage so I wanted something that was stupid proof since I'm not the sharpest tack in the pack.

To run the MHD adaptive flex-fuel tunes you need the Motiv flex-fuel module. The module lets MHD read what the in-line fuel content sensor is reading. MHD adjusts accordingly.

The Motiv module for MHD is $175 and the sensor and line is $220.

You're behind on the times my man. MHD/ Motiv's Flex Fuel setup is exactly as you described and exactly what I said in my post above about me running it. They use an ethanol sensor inline and the maps automatically adjust for my ethanol content.

Good to know. It's been a while since I did the research. Looks like there are a couple of good options.
