The EL I'm using has a flap along the length of the wire that helps hold it in.
The orange I got in the link above is a pretty good match. Not perfect, but pretty close.
It looks pretty good at night. During the day it looks a little out of place. A little blingy.

I remember reading that detailed DIY. The part he's referring to is on Page 2 where you basically drill through all the plastic connection points that hold the fiber shroud. Everyone makes their own decision on what the work they want to do for a brighter ambient light. For me, it wasn't worth it.
Cool DIY, though. So much information there that people would find useful for other tasks.

Ambient light brightness

Hi!

I want to buy an E92 or E93 but I have a question:
How can I change the ambient light brightness? In the iDrive menu?

It's tied to the instrument cluster brightness, which in turn is adjusted using the BC stalk on the left of your steering wheel.

Reviving an old thread. This project is not as hard as people make it out to be. I just need to know which LED's to buy. I'm changing mine to blue. I have a ton of spare light modules from 6 door panels.

Any updates on this?

What if we would use more LEDs? like 2 or 3 instead of original 1led? I have broken BMW Business Radio so I could take orange LEDs from it (if they are same or more brighter than original LED, and if they are the same voltage).

Also what voltage is supplied to ambient light?
If I find it correctly its from 1V to 3V depending on instrument cluster setting.

I have removed 2x 4420 resistors which make 884ohm resistance, and instead added one 390ohm 0.5W resistor. I think it should not burn the LED because I set lighting at level 4 out of 9 levels, at level 4 it supplies avg ~7V. The LED's are brighter now at level 4 like it would be at level 9. So Its a bit better than original on my setting.

This post might be useful: https://www.xbimmers.com/forums/show...8&postcount=25
I have tried to experiment with different kind of LED, but they seem not to make much difference...

It would be best to combine multiple LED's in series, but the issue is that acrylic stripe accepts the light only from the ends where you can put just one LED. Lighting from the side to acrylic does not illuminate it...

I know this thread is old, but wondering if someone could help. RealOEM has two parts listed for these lights, one for light coloured interiors and one for all others. My assumption is that the lighter interiors have duller lights, and therefore if I opt to replace it for the LED for a darker interior, it will be brighter. Does anyone know if this is definitely the case? Have they been compared side by side?

my 2013 335is e93's BC stalk does not have the adjustment(s) for the LED door strip decorative interior lighting (light strip that runs horizontally and appx 4 inches or so below the driver's side window).

still trying to find the adjustment for this; it's not on the idrive screen, it's not on the BC stalk....

anyone know if it is indeed adjustable??
