Window Tints

I'm trying to get my window tints done. I saw review on yelp and found out place in fairfax called Tint FX.. they have five star from over 20 people.. I was wondering what the cost was for tinting all five windows.. they gave me a quote for 220 to 260 depending on quality of films. does that sound about right? also what tint % are you guys running in NOVA.. Last thing i wanna do is get pulled over for stupid tints. or any recommendation for shops?

TNT tint in Alexandria does great work. The guy who Does it (Matt) is a bit quirky but top notch. $220 for my e90, running 35% around for almost 3 years with 0 issue from po's

Ive always run 35% and have only been pulled over once in 5+ years. There is a guy I have always used that used to be mobile but now uses a shop in manassas and herndon. He will do your whole car for $200 and its top notch. PM me if you want his number.

BTW, to those who have been pulled over - I wear contacts, and it was very easy to get the "sunshading" specific registration from the DMV. If I ever do get pulled over, I'll just show that and should have no problems. Anyone with glasses/contacts should do that same.

Is that the same form that has to be filled out by your eye doctor? If so, I have had contacts for a long time and then got lasik and none of my doctors have ever been willing to sign one of those forms for me.

Same form Sprygsxr - I filled it out then had it with me at my eye appointment. My Doctor signed it without issue and I faxed it to the DMV.

Damn, I'm gonna ask my eye doctor if she's willing to sign off on this for me next time I see her. I doubt it, but worth a shot!

If you get a ticket in VA is it a fix it (aka remove the tint) or just a fine?

Fine but situations vary of course. In past vehicles a cop has written me up for every mod and another cop said "get it fixed"

I had always thought it was a fix-it ticket, meaning you had to get it fixed. It's not so bad if it's just a fine.

From my understanding (friend got a ticket for tint) you must fix it and prove you fixed it. It's not just the fine.

That's my worry about going darker than legal. Especially for the rear window since (I've heard) it can be hard to remove without damaging the rear defroster, meaning a new rear window which is a lot of extra expense just to "fix it". Although if it's 35% all around, you're only illegal up front, so if they make you fix it, you can leave the rear alone and get the front fixed pretty easily.

What color is your car/interior? My car looks darker, especially at night and even with 35% around, and I've been stopped at lights next to Arlington Cops - Never had an issue.

I dunno guys, I don't care too much for my tint done by TNT Tint. It was a few years back, but I remember at the time Matt seemed to have resigned to the fact that the dot matrix wouldn't come out well (it doesn't look too great to this day).

I got just under 35%. I'm not exactly sure what percent but it's "just under" 35%. Over time the tint has faded and I'll likely redo it somewhere else.

I've never been pulled over in VA, although while speeding on 395 a cop did shine his spotlight thru my drivers side window (didn't get pulled over --phew).

Edit: All that said, the tint job itself was pretty good. No bubbles, good work, etc. Just wished he had a better strategy/options for the dot matrix (vinyl perhaps), and not sure why my tint has faded so much over a couple years.
