Exclamation Getting the best out of a remap?

Is there anything I should be checking on my car to ensure I get the best results before I get a remap done?

New air filter / maf check etc?

When was the car last serviced mate?? If it's been done recently, everything should be ok. Otherwise, you might want to consider a replacement air filter, but there's no real need for anything more than that...

Service was a while ago and is probably due around the time of remap.

How many miles?

You have had the car from new mate? so you know how its been treated. Never thrashed from cold? Turbo allowed to cool down etc after a run?

Then get it serviced first, with the latest software updates etc... otherwise, there's a possibility that when it does go in for a service after you have had the remap, the map will be wiped and therefore you'll need another trip down to Evolve...

Up until recently, BMW dealers were using the GT1 programming machine - this used to take hours, literally, to program a car. Most of the time, the cars were left overnight to be updated. However over the last year, BMW UK have been planning a rollout of the new programing machines (can't remember the name offhand) which will allow programming of the cars in about an hour, depending on level of programming. These new machines have now found their way to some, but not all, of the UK dealers. Those dealers who have the new machines have now been advised that within the general servicing parameters of an Inspection 1 or Inspection 2 service, that the car should be hooked up to the diagnostic machine. This new machine is centrally linked to BMW AG, and will scan the car for any available updates to any of the installed modules and/or ECU. If the machine finds there are updates to be done, this will be done automatically as part of the service.

This situation is by no means mandatory across the BMW dealer network, yet, but in due course it will become an inherent part of any servicing work.

So, whilst your car has not had any updates over the 4 years you've had it, that doesn't preclude the installation of any new updates the next time it goes in for service!
