Match MS 42 Speakers vs. Individual Audio vs. Logic 7?

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience with the Match MS 42C speakers by Audiotech Fischer? I currently have Logic 7 midranges passively crossed with Vifa OT19 tweeters, but I find the system to be a bit too harsh for my tastes. I listen to a lot of 80s rock (ABBA, Dire Straits, Eagles), jazz (Miles Davis), and classical music (Chopin).

For reference, these are the speakers: https://www.audiotec-fischer.de/en/match/speakers/ms-42c-bmw.1

This is all backed up by the PP82DSP amp by Audiotec as well. Have the Hifi subs which are surprisingly decent. Looking for smooth sound, really.

My other alternative is to go for the Individual Audio setup, which I’ve heard is phenomenal. Having trouble finding the crossovers with the wiring harness intact, however.

Any recommendations? I can get the Match speakers at quite a discount, about $120 for the entire set.

I dont with the MAtch but I do have cars with both the Logic 7 and Individual speakers.

Logic 7 will have a bit more thump but the Individual is just clear and excellent at any volume.

Also the E60 shares the same system with the E90 other than the front/rear door speakers themselves(just different mounting pattern)

If you have a component set could you set the physical crossover for
the tweeter to a lower DB setting?
Also going active/direct to the tweeter with a single channel would allow
more control .
Have you tried to tune the DSP ?
The stock Hi Fi speakers are crap don't know about the other OEM speakers.
Morels for the Doors and Jehnerts for the floors if you want something that is
warm and accurate.
Hi Fi subs (floors)are crap.
I have an xd600/6 and did the comparison between the Jehnerts and the stock speakers and
there is none. Stock Hi Fi are better with an decent amp but they are still muddy and inaccurate.

Thank you both for the responses!
Bit of background. My car came with 676 Hifi, and I installed the logic 7 midranges in the front to replace the hifi mids as one was blown. The OT19 tweeters were installed using the hifi tweeter's wiring - they have a capacitor inline with the wiring, and that's it. The Logic 7 mids are aluminum and I think that’s part of the problem - I’ve never really liked Al midranges - always found them to be a bit too harsh...

I have played around with the DSP on the amp, and things have gotten much better, but to really sort it out I think I need a proper crossover network. Hence the Match speakers which have a crossover network included, or the Individual Audio speakers which also require a crossover network to function properly.

Honestly, there are two things holding me back from the Match speakers; first, that they require cutting the original wiring in the doors (unless I can buy just the speaker wiring plugs), and second, that they're paper midranges. The Individual Audio system is a Kevlar cone, I believe, and doesn't require cutting any wires.

I've been able to find the IA tweeters, crossovers, and midranges on eBay, but they're all missing the wiring harness between the crossover and the mids/tweeters. Anyone have any experience sourcing the harness or building their own?

You can buy the wiring harness at ECS or FCP

In fact, I could give you every part number for the entire bmw IA speaker system if you like

Match Audio Tech Fisher makes drop in speakers for BMW .
They should work on the sedan/wagon as a direct drop in on
the coupe/convert you would have to check.
It even says so on the link you supplied.

Also there is and audio entertainment electronics subforum here.

Got it. I knew they were compatible, I was just curious about their sound quality.
I’ll move this to the subforum.

I have the set of BMW IA speakers less minus the under the seat subs powered by a JL Audio XD600/6v2 amp. They sound great.

That’s what I’ve heard as well, that the IA are amazing. Just wanted to see if anyone had heard the Match speakers as well, for comparisons’ sake.

Also, per ctuna's advice, I’ve moved the thread over to the audio section:

Thank you all for your input!

I had my system just about ironed out in my last e92. It had the hifi and I put my own deck in with a technic harness and new amp and Focal speakers. Well. I totaled that car and have a newer one now. It has idrive and Logic 7 and its not bad but cant compare to my Focal speakers. I am wondering if the Logic 7 amp will power my speakers adequately. If so can I just swap them and tune the Idrive eq a bit?

The logic 7 amp probably is worth 50w a channel RMS at 2ohm IMO.

You'd have to get a technique harness, MOST loop, and JL Audio amp, which is 75w a channel at 4ohm x 6 to be able to power everything but the underneath the seat subs.

If are able to add a DSP like the new JBL at Crutchfield & an additional 2 channel amp, at the least, you could control the cross over settings for the logic 7 under the seat subs & set them to 80 to 500, or 80 to 250. The under the seat subs sound very muddy playing sound 20 to 80hz. They also shouldn't be powered over 50w RMS.

specs for output chips in entry 18 for logic 7
Which means BMW has to use 2 ohm speakers to get 40 watts and its
at 10 percent distortion .
10 percent distortion for the underseats to.

Well, you guys convinced me to go for the IA system. Should come in next week. Looking forward to listening to them!

I got the entire system, minus the subs, out of a wrecked E93. Not sure what to do with the rear door speakers and tweeters, though. Might end up selling them here.

The coaxial center I'll probably install in my mom's F30 as she already has a center speaker - unless it's really worth it to add one?

I wouldnt need all that honestly. I would ditch the center channel as I have the surround turned off anyway. I dont understand why BMW made such a gimmicky system. Music is played in stereo not surround. I have a great Kenwood 5 channel for the rest of the speakers and for a separate sub for the trunk. The underseats would be used as midbass, thats what they are really anyway. I know how to build the system, I was just wondering if the Logic 7 amp was still of any use. If it can power my speakers, Focal 100 VRS (https://www.crutchfield.com/S-s3NPSo...s-100-VRS.html), are 4 ohm and the underseats as midbass, I can do some trickery with the EQ or a DSP and add a LOC for my sub.
