The extra 100kg of weight would bother me though - do you feel it dynamically in the car? Obviously there's enough power to push it along, but more through the corners?

Sound wise, which was clearly your goal, that's a win. Now I wonder if you can hear police sirens as they chase you down...
Thanks P, don't really notice the extra weight tbh, maybe a bit slower to pull up when braking, but might just be my imagination. What has been a surprise is the car feels more planted all around. I think the overlapping butyl sheets are acting like a car shaped internal brace, stiffening up the body and floor Have not taken it out for a drive in the twisties yet but going through round abouts and corners, it def feels more solid #bonus

Was the most time consuming mod on the car by far
I really really hope, that's the very last time I ever have to strip the interior down to the metal

MOD 129 - OIL PAN BAFFLE

The covid lock down here in Melbourne has put the skids on modding for the past few months. But with restrictions being eased, I got a chance to hang out with Vince today working on the car

First job for the day was to drop the front sub frame, remove the oil pan and weld in a vac ms oil pan baffle

This device prevents oil starvation when cornering at high speed and is a must do mod, if you plan to track your car

New baffle, oil pan gasket and an oil change ..... bonus

Pics below

Pics 1 & 2 - VAC MS baffle
Pics 3 & 4 - Vince welding baffle into oil pan
Pic 5 - Front sub frame
Pic 6 - Underside of engine with oil pan removed
Pic 7 - Oil pan reinstalled

MOD 130 - TURNER ENGINE MOUNTS

While we had the front sub frame out, we took the opportunity to install some new engine mounts

The turner engine mounts are beefier then the 335i mounts and will stiffen up engine movement

Could not feel much of a difference tbh but I am sure they will help in the twisties

MOD 131 - SERVOTRONIC STEERING ASSIST

Installed the M3 steering rack a while back and unlike the stock rack, the M3 has the option for variable steering weight

The steering is light at low speeds (parking etc) and changes to heavy at high speeds

Requires a new control box (from a Z4) some programming and soME wiring magic to get this it to work

Steering is very light compared to the heavy steering of the M3 rack

May need some extra coding to dial a bit more weight and a quicker rate of change

Pic of new control box below

Good stuff socks. I have an M3 rack and what I hopefully think is the right JBBF to get servotronic working. Do you know the part number for the rack-end of the servotronic wiring, and the pins that go in the junction box?

Thanks mate

The box you need is from a Z4, the stock 335 one wont work (pic below from the website where I purchased my control box so you can check the numbers against yours)
Re the wiring we made our own harness. Vince did the wiring install. I think it was pins 5 and 6 but I'm not 100% sure. He also had to do a specific flash to get it to work. You might find the link below helpful

You just need a junction box 3, we tried different flashes on the junctionbox 2 but that didn't work.

MOD 132 - SPEAKER PODS

Regular readers will know that I am still working on the audio upgrade in the car. With the sound proofing done, I am now working on a SQ tune.
It is a lot more difficult then I thought and I have a new found respect for car audio tuners.

Meanwhile I managed to break the tweeter pods when trying to reinstall them, so I decided to have a go at fabricating up some myself using some metal pods I had in my parts bin.

Basically these were made for my focal speakers as A pillar pods, but I decided to make them into an adjustable ball and socket pod in the OEM speaker positions.

I did the tweaters first and then the mids, using a combination of epoxy, metal braces and butterfly clamps.

Not perfect but came out ok and can I adjust the speaker axis to where I want and clamp them down again

Pics below:

Pic 1 - Close up of pod (basically a metal ball)
Pics 2 & 3 - Passenger side pods
Pics 4 & 5 - Drivers side pods

Socks, the engine mounts look very good. From what I have read on the US forums, most after market engine mounts seem to radiate engine noise throughout the cabin due to the stiffness of the rubber. It will be interesting to see how yours perform over time.

Will keep an ear out for that mate but so far I have not noticed any difference. I will be going for a drive in the mountains on Friday, so will let you know how they perform

Thanks so much Horchata, I appreciate it very much mate

Have done a bit of work and tbh I am getting close to calling it done

Next mod is to install a M3 master cylinder (to improve the stopping power) and of course to finish off the SQ audio tune, which is proving far more difficult then I thought it would be. Might have to move the speakers around again, but geez I hope not

Glad you like the car, (thanks again), If you need any help or advice with urs, I'd be happy to help

Cheers Socket

Instead of the usual E9X brake master cylinder swap, I've also read about someone using an F8X M3/M4 brake master cylinder.

Are you also going to code (or have you already coded) the VO to add SPBR for "high performance" brakes since you've got a BBK?

Oh have not heard of people using F8x cylinders or the coding for HP brakes..... very interesting
