Hey folks,

Virgin Media contract ending and can see a really good deal on BT Infinity at the moment.

Any of you lot on it and thoughts??

Apparently its now totally unlimited and unthrottled as well which is a real win!

We have it and are very pleased ! no issues go for it

Not saying it isn't (I don't know) but I'd check, check and check again. Sometimes these people have a different definition of the words 'unlimited' and 'unthrottled' from the rest of the UK population.

Personally I wouldn't touch anything from BT with someone else's. As far as I'm concerned they're a bunch of incompetents, crooks and shysters but that's not really helping is it?

I've had it for nearly a year and it has been really good in terms of top speed etc. Not very stable/solid though. The bandwith is all over the place.

Although it has not been working for 48hrs and the customer support is worse than useless. All they have is try switching it off and on again (yeah cos I diddn't think of that) and then 'oh well, wait till tomorrow and see if it comes back on.'

Bt released a press statement in march 2013. All new contracts will be not be throttled. It is in fact the only provider in u.k to do this fully.

We just got switched over Monday this week. Too early to tell but for now seems just like they described.

So it's only new contracts that won't be throttled?

Well that sucks. I suppose the longer running customers will have their bandwith throttled significantly to allow for the new customers to get the bandwidth.

100% sure. Sky also claim they do not throttle. But as far I know the consesnsus is that bt is the best to go for. Virgin throttle down 75% after 15 mins. According to their fair usage policy.

I have the 76 infinty and our line speed is 56. It hasn't dropped below this yet this week.


Google. Bt infinity throttle or something comes up with a few articles one particular cnet one from last month.

Have had BT Infinity for over a year on the unlimited package. Speeds are usually excellent, I usually get around 35mbs, however be aware that during peak hours those speeds can fluctuate\drop. Still it's amazing what you get used to, it's really noticeable when you go to somewhere else and use wi-fi, everything else feels glacial in comparison.

Two points though

1) It's only unlimited if you pay for the top unlimited package, otherwise you will have download limits.

2) Despite what they say it does get throttled during peak times if you download torrents or do P2P (although there are usually ways round this)

Just got sky sorted this morning

So sky tv extra +, sky sports, sky movies and multiroom for £40 a month happy with that!

BT broadband too.... £26 a month... so £66 a month - up £8 from virgin but have now got extra movies and sports and bt wifi when out and about - well worth it for me.

(£25 M&S voucher from sky for and a £40 sainsburys voucher from BT to buy F1 accompanying beers & snacks! )

I can't fault Sky. Stayed with them after the 12 months were up. Unlimited, uncapped, not throttled FTTC.

Speed will be reliant on a number of factors, main ones that I can think of are: distance to cab (or exchange if you haven't upgraded), wiring in your house, and what speed your provider are giving/limiting you to. Those with speeds in the 70s will be close to their cabs and have good wiring in their house.

Another vote for Plusnet here. I get 35Mb but that is the max for where I am and package I'm on.

Yeah, I think they bought them. I know of someone leaving them as they said Plusnet had gone downhill since.

Sites like the piratebay is blocked and I think they may throttle p2p.
