Do people really have "weekend cars"?

My 911 is sometimes a weekend car. But its more like it only comes out for a trip to the mountains or the track so sometimes it stays in the garage for longer periods. The M2 is day to day use. I will expand to two non-daily cars in the next few years as I still want a small car that weighs closer to 2,500lbs or less. A Miata or something like that.

It's all 3rd party costs, value of the car plays little role in the price. Insurance here is ABSURD. Wife has one small blemish and she pays near $2K year. Anyone under 25 is 5K plus. It is totally and utterly out of control and NOTHING you can do about it. Those costs are with heavy group discounts and heavier discount for being part of the BAR Association. God help those who have no such perks. So running a 3rd car gets expensive really quickly. |

We have 2 in the garage, one is a low mileage 01' 330ci vert. we absolutely got silly price on, nights and weekend, mtn etc cruise car. My 235i is a light track, weekend, garage queen, 4K miles a year tops.
We had 5 vehicles (4 drivers with the kids) but with Covid, sold the CRV, and now have the 2 BMW's in garage, a 18' Civic and a high mileage 12' Civic I beat around town in. As we come out of Covid, and oldest goes off to college, we'll get a lightly used 4Runner for skis/bikes/kayaks. |

i drive a $6k civic to work monday through friday.
M3 and GT3 are for nice days (weekends or after work). I really get no joy out of doing the speed limit or being stuck in traffic in my nice cars. I might as well be in the civic if im just gonna do that. It is more comfortable, easier to park, handles potholes better... and i dont ever need to wash it.

My 335i is absolutely a weekend driver; though I do drive her during the week. She never sees a wet road though and lives comfortably in the garage by herself.
My daily driver is a SUV. It does not get much love anymore :-) Although I did polish and wax it last week.

this is my problem...and while i'm not OCD...if i own it then i'm going to take care of it. i cant stand dirty, broken vehicles. i'm trying to instill that in my kids as well, so i'm usually helping (pushing) them to clean and maintain their (my) cars!

My E93 M3 is my weekend ride, with a 245K mile Lexus LS430 serving daily duties during the week. The Lexus is headed for retirement later this month when my M5C arrives and replaces it as my daily.

I feel like I've always had a more dedicated car. Something for the A to B and something to blow off some steam, gather my thoughts, have some fun, whatever... I wouldn't necessarily say it's exclusive to the weekends, and I'm sure the same can be said for most. Nice weather with a little extra time on a Tuesday after work? Time to take out the "weekend car."
Currently I've got a company car with no restrictions on personal mileage. I got my wife a newer Land Cruiser which is kid hauler and really anything else we or she does - I didn't have much going on today, so we went to grab lunch together in it today. And I've got an older Land Cruiser that's for camping trips or a quick blast down a dirt road. After we move, I'll probably be looking for another E90M or something to add to the stable. It's all about a well-rounded diet. |

I bought the F82 with the intention that it will do everything. Rain, shine, road trips, track, daily, weekend, project car, etc. If I had to commute with my car, then I might have looked into having a cheap, comfy commuter car. Bay Area roads are a bit unforgiving for a lowered F82 first thing in the morning

I have an F80 and a Miata ND. I would like to think one of them is a weekend car but I just use both of them randomly depending how I feel or who is dirtier.

Only scenario where I'd get a "weekend car" is if it's a classic BMW M car, Porsche, or Ferrari. Due to lack of reliability/high COL it's not justifiable to daily drive such cars.
I definitely plan on having one such "weekend car." But the daily would also be something fun not some appliance. The M2 comes to mind!

Yup, I've been looking for a 2nd home, waterfront. Keep getting outbid. Ideally I want a garage for the same reason.

100% people do this and I am one of them. Have a Kia K5 I take to work most days and a 718 I drive on the weekends (and once in a while to work). It's not that uncommon at all. I mean if you have a 2 seater like the 718 you pretty much need a second car unless you are single and never bring any passengers or cargo anywhere.
