I've been riding around for some time with road rash on my front bumper, and am looking to do something about it. The rash isn't too noticeable if you you are standing up, but I know its there, and I want to fix it. I am concerned about trying to repaint/replace the front bumper as I am not confident the body shop can get it to perfectly match the rest of the body. The OCD in me would have a problem with that. Instead, I've been thinking about two alternatives:

-- I was thinking about marking off with tape the lower portion that covers the rash, and spray painting the lower portion flat black, perhaps with a truck bed liner that won't show future scrapes or rock dings, and is easy to touch up.

-- My first choice, however, would be a plastic or fiberglass cover that fits over the lower portion of the bumper, but I have not been able to find any. If anyone can refer me to something like this, TIA.

Thoughts on any solution welcome. And yes, I know it looks like shit, but car has not been washed, and there is a lot of grass clippings, etc. on it.

You think that you can do a better job of painting than a shop? Add a lip and cover up the damage, it looks a lot more than rash. What did you hit?

My hopes and dreams. They were in the shape of a low cement curbs...

I'm reticent to have the whole bumper repainted. I was thinking that I could address the scuffs on the lower portion...some sort of lip or cover I could put over the lower portion with adhesives maybe. I don't know. Never had this problem. That is why I am looking for solutions that others have found who had similar issues. I'm not afraid to spend money to get the bumper repainted, just worried that a shop won't be able to accurately colour match 14 year old slightly faded BMW metallic green.

You should look into getting a pre-lci e92 front lip. Should cover all of the scratches on the bumper. This seems like your best bet if you don't trust a paint shop.

@kellenf123 That looks like the Aero lip that the PO installed on my E92 and what I was referring to in my post.

I'll go to a local auto paint shop and have 'em mix you your paint code in a spray can.. a little bit of Bondo and sanding to DIY. If it fails, then just bring it to a body shop.

The paint to match your car is available online, you've just got to search for it.

I wouldn't go the bondo and paint route unless you're really confident in your abilities. Cover it or go to a local shop and see if they have done other color match jobs and can just paint a section.
