Honestly didn't feel too compromisy to me, but I know what you mean. With no budget for more channels or new rears if we made a fiberglass box, it was a beautiful solution IMO.
Looking back, you are right... it should not be too difficult to extract some nice sound with a combo like that. It could be much better if the front speakers were replaced with a more capable aftermarket component set and a proper crossover.

Actually, using the THA555 exclusively (front, center and underseat speakers) for the front stage would be much better, IMO.

OK I just took another look at the THA 555 PnP and there are no dedicated speaker level inputs for the sub! There are only front and rear full range inputs, which in the case of L7 have the sub frequencies removed, so no go! I would need a summing module in order to use that amp! No thanks, I'll get another mono amp then.

You can use the RCA inputs thru a LOC instead of the high level inputs.

Since it is for the sub, noise concerns are minimal... but get a good LOC...

Well, I didn't want to fool around with LOCs and such, so I just bought this: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_613KAC8...KAC8104&tp=115

This Kenwood amp has speaker level inputs and auto-turn-on, and is also class D like the Blaupunkt, so it is relatively small and won't get too hot. It also has 500W of power, which may be a bit overkill, but I don't mind having the extra headroom

It is refurbished but coming from Crutchfield I have no worries, especially at the price of only $120 plus shipping. If anyone else is interested in getting this amp (and they have any left), coupon code 3A172 will bring your total down to $100 plus a mere $7 shipping. Great deal if you ask me.

I will hook it up and let you guys know how it turns out. I can always send it back for a full refund, If I am not happy.

Well, I received the Kenwood amp today and installed it right away. First observation was that it is fugly and quite bulky. Hooked it up through the speaker level inputs and it works, but...... I have to crank the gain all the way up to get acceptable output. Also, maybe it is just me but the bass notes are not as tight as they were with the Blaupunkt. I will give it a chance during an externded test drive next week but I have a feeling it will go back and be exchanged for another Blaupunkt.

Yeah, I thought it might work out that way if you used those inputs.

Well, I got tired of the looks and bulky nature of the Kenwood amp and ordered another BP 1250 Pnp. My previous observations have been confirmed: the BP has much more defined bass notes...the bass just is a lot clearer and punchier. That's how I like it so I am happy!

No. We would set you up with a PnP harness from Technic, and a smaller, better amp, and the same SWS8 - OR, a trunk sub 10" and a different Technic harness, and an amp.

What if I wanted to simply run the OEM subs with a better amp? Which one is now the amp of choice, and where would I get the harness from Technic? Is that all I'd need besides power, ground and fuse holder?

What amp would you suggest if I were to power two 8" and 1 12"? Would a 4 ch amp be enough? Do I need 2 ohms 8" and 2 ohms 12"?

Hey guys im new to this part of the forums, been doing a lot of reading into upgrading the L7 system in my e90 and decided adding a tweeter in the center channel and a sub in a custom box to fit in the ski pass is what I want. I already impulse purchased a kicker L7 10in on sale but it doesnt seem like it will fit and they sound really bad compared other subs in video tests so it'll get returned. I know this isnt the most accurate representation but with decent headphones you clearly hear a difference. So looking at 8 inch options I've narrowed my choices down to the Sundown Audio Ev5 or Skar MA-8 I just don't know which one to go for. As a side note when searching many of the DSP options recommended seem to be discontinued or out of my price range and I came across this Eonon unit, would it have any use in powering a couple more powerful door speakers? Links Below

Sub that made me switch from kicker and sound im looking for.

Kicker

TLDR: Sundown Audio Ev5 8in or Skar MA-8 and is this DSP any use

^^^ Why go with an 8 inch sub? If you've settled on the ski-pass set-up, I'd highly recommend infinite baffle, i.e. no enclosure. are you looking for bass to blend in with the stock system, or are you looking for a good back massage while the music is playing?
