Anyone have a NAV disc newer than the 2005.2 version?
My dealer gave me version 2005.2 when I picked up my e90 last week, but Navteq's website says that 2006.2 is available. (The release version is printed on the disc.)
I'm guessing BMW just hasn't started to distribute 2006.2 or even 2006.1 yet, unless someone on here received it... |

What is different between the NAV DVD's? I have gotten mine in August and never took it out from the DVD bay since I got the car

I wouldn't mind updating my CD since my street name changed 2 years ago and it is still under the old name on my NAV DVD.

The USA 2006-1 came out around September 2005 and the 2006-2 was supposed to be released now in March

coupla hundred? that's sick. should be like most software subscriptions, say 50.00usd per yr so of updates (and there better be updates)
coupla hundred makes almost everyone? just retain their original version I'm almost certain, because it's not substantially worth it for the price. |

I know that acura's updates are only 60 bucks. But I think they only do them once a year.

Yes too expensive but the other issue it that the dealer should give you the latest when you pick up the car - Don't think that they did. I'd go back and get it and if they give you grieve - call BMWNA.
Probably had some dvd's left over and too lazy or cheap to get the latest part number.

When I took a test drive back in December, the navi didn't work. Salesman told me that they don't leave the DVD's in the cars because they cost $260 & people steal them.

I've said this before ...
If we can find someone with the 2006.2 disc .. just image it and I will host it for everyone to download. I have more than enough webspace and bandwidth. Anyone out there with 2006.2? |

I asked Beewang over on bimmerfest about copying the disks, since he rents them out and a copy would be a lot easier if it gets lost. He informed me that from the information that he had, the copied disks have a tendancy to get stuck in the DVD drive and if the dealer finds a copied disk in the drive they can and most likely will void the entire I-drive warranty, not just the nav, as well as make you pay out of pocket to have the disk removed. Just some food for thought to make you give copying one of the disks some serious thought before you try it.

As soon as I took delivery I made an Image and then burned to a blank DVD. I use the DVD copy in the car every day and have the original in safe keeping. The burned copy works great.

About removing a disc if it gets stuck, yeah you'd probably have to pay them for that (if you can't figure it out yourself) and the worst that could happen is they give you a frowny face sticker on your report card for the semester.

Just a word of caution - these disks are copywrite protected, so would be careful about openly advertising a download site on this forum.
I agree that the cost of getting an updated disk is complete B.S. and there needs to be a better solution. |

I think I should make a copy of my NAV DVD in case something happens. I wouldn't mind downloading and seeing the difference myself though

Backups do work fine. I used a backup for my entire ED. I had the original, but asked the person at the delivery center if a copy would work. He said he thought so. He even inserted it, it worked fine, and I never bothered trying the original.
It was also very easy to make a copy of the original. I wanted to make sure I had a backup, just in case, while on vacation. |
