Update: Schmiedmann sent me an invoice saying parts had arrived there in Odense. I also got a Fedex shipping notice so they are on their way to USA!
Meanwhile, I've cut back harness a little on passenger side to get polllen sensor wires to reach its further inboard mounting spot. I ran into a bit of a puzzle. There is a little nub that sticks out (see pictures) on the outboard side mount. I started to get dremel and cut it off where sensor end would point in board. But then i thought those BMW guys put that there for a reason so I spun sensor around to where sensor end points outboard and it went in okay. I really wished i had a little more wire length though. I don't want to hack the harness with splices to get more reach. Last picture is with sensor in mount and lower small cover closing out the ECU compartment. Top passenger side with filters not installed yet. I also looked on net to see how standard E90 cowl has the sensor pointed and found it is also outboard. So, I must have flipped this around a long time ago on the standard cowl when I had pulled DDE for tune. Last edited by BB_cuda; 10-31-2015 at 12:07 PM.. |

I've been running the BMS filters for six months now, Austin has had constant downpours, and not even the slightest hint of trouble. Other than my inability to keep traction anywhere. So my parts list (from realoem.com): 02 Housing, microfilter lower section, left 1 64316958817 $31.84 +core 03 Housing, mic-filter lower section, right 1 64316958818 $31.84 +core 04 Housing, microfilter top section, left 1 64316958815 $22.14 +core 05 Housing, microfilter top section, right 1 64316958816 $22.14 +core 06 Covering left 1 64319144869 $9.10 07 Covering right 1 64319144870 $9.10 The question is, which set of these is the correct M3 cable tray? All the below parts numbers are valid on realoem.com. *Cable Duct, Upper - 12-52-7-532-269 *Cable Duct, Lower - 12-52-7-532-270 12-52-7-838-732 cover $20.78 12-52-7-838-733 lower tray $20.78

2 things...
1)Any idea if the wire harness enclosure works for the 335i? 2) Can someone open the hood, wet the seal close the hood and see whether the seal makes an outline on the hood to verify it seals well? Thank you! |

Has anyone found these cheaper than the $200 price tags I'm getting? Wished the prices didn't change that much.

So I was about to get the parts for this but had some T/S to do on my car, so I left the standard cowl off and just used my BMS filters for about 2 weeks(I bought them specifically for when I was testing the car). Glad I did because I realized the "Clatteriness" (is that a word?) is annoying without the cowl filter in daily driving...I think the M3 mod would cause the same effect. So, for me, the 5 min to install/remove the standard cowl to do work is worth the more quiet passenger compartment noise. Just provided as data, not judgement. If you want to hear everything, this mod is for you. If you prefer quiet power, stay with stock. It just didn't sound like I was driving a BMW...

From the date of the original post I'm guessing this was originally done on a pre-LCI E90. Has anyone done this on an LCI? Are there any differences?
I have the BMS filters but one thing not mentioned is that when they are in, the air being blown into your cabin now comes from the engine bay. You don't notice so much with your windows down but when they're up and the smell is...well engine bay. :P Last edited by Nic123; 05-16-2016 at 12:21 PM.. |

Pics of recent cowl/filter swap
In the middle of the job - waiting for covers to arrive from ECS. So far, the only hardware used are two bolts and a screw (from removal of stock cowl). A bolt on each end and screw in middle. It's being held in by clips on the firewall side and it seems solid.
Note the pollen sensor positioning. I opted shave the small nub and position the sensor on the opposite side and zip-tie it. This prevents from having to cut the harness. I like this setup SO much better than the HUGE stock cowl. MUCH better to access various things - BOV, rear filter, etc. Finally, I placed an order for the correct cable guides here: http://www.schmiedmann.com/3_series/e92.htm Parts 12527838732 and 12527838733 Though the cost is a little high with all the parts, I think it's well worth it. |

How did the cable routing trays work for you? I'm using velcro cable ties to hold the cables together and have them running along the strut brace and firewall. Thats easier to undo if necessary than zip ties (in my opinion). It looks OK, but I'm wondering if I should take the extra step and order the trays. If you have a picture with trays installed, that would be fantastic!!
FWIW, I did this modification yesterday because my original cowl, filter covers and cable tray were beaten up after having been removed so many time; and, incremental cost was about $100 more than if I had used non M3 stock components. I don't notice additional noise, but I typically have windows open, radio on, A/C on or a combination of the three. Water intrusion does not appear to be an issue. I drove in rain this morning and tossed a bucket of water on the windshield this afternoon. Water drains as normal and there's nothing near the DME.

Looks good to me! Has anyone done this conversion with a Dinan strut tower bar?
