How common is a model?

I've seen a couple of threads where people are commenting how rare or common a particular configuration of E9X is. I've seen counts of like "250 imported" or "2000 produced". Is there a source of these numbers? How does one find this out?

There's no such thing as a "rare" E90.. people are just delusional. BMW made millions of these cars.

As far as the numbers (of color combos or whatever), the answer is a BMW database called the ETK. But it's not so easy as looking up your VIN and spitting out a number. Not that it matters (see above).

It's clear the OP doesn't think E90s are rare, but is referring to certain configurations that are harder to find... IE: RWD manual with sport package.

This thread still looks active, http://maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157862

Someone is looking up combos, if you know the VIN. He basically says how many of that exact combo were made.

OP, either post in the thread above or search to see if someone with the same config already asked for the numbers.
I know my E91 is 1 of 4 in Canada and only 5 were built for the US in my config (E91, xdrive, Monaco Blue, Saddle Brown interior, manual).
So, yeah, I'll just park it now with a 1 of 9 in NA sign over it.

color is one thing, but to answer at this thread , in north america, I would say a REAL FULLY loaded E91 6mt is very very very rare, (real leather, mpack, comfort access, sport, executive, navi, so on)

Why ? Because it was more expensive than a M3.

I personally drove this one, according to the owner , it was 1 of 10 in canada (excluding color combo, since its easy to makes it 1of1)

He got this info from the dealer sales reports.

I’ll take a look, but I’ve yet to see anyone with another 2011 335 E90, much less one that’s an XI in Blue Water Metallic.

Must be a U.S. car because as far as I know the M package wasn't offered on Canadian E91s.

No idea on exact numbers but my E91 is definitely one of a handful in Canada since it has ever option package available for 2011 (premium, executive, sport, nav, premium sound) and is a manual.

yes it was, bought from BMW west island montreal.

When I was searching for a e91 I saw 3 m pack, only 1 6mt. all of them in km/h

Looks like you're right, but it also looks like by 2011 they had discontinued the package.

I think it's the color combination and options that make it uncommon but not rare. It seems to be the owners/sellers of highly desired combo and options that call it rare.

Oh and I agree that this whole rarity numbers game is silly.
At the end, a buyer will want to find a combo of colours and options he/she wants regardless of it being 1 of whatever.

IMO, the only people who care about the 1ofX are collectible traders and speculators where that plate is more important than the actual car being pink with baby blue interior.

e90s were dirt cheap for lease, so most of them are base or near base automatic models.

Colors combo are almost infinite, but options are options; you check them or not.

Imo, mid-luxury cars, since they are not in a limited production number, make them into 'unicorn' status is by their options.

rare e90 are in fact fully loaded one, on the less common chassis which is the e91.

Of course its not a lambo countach twin turbo rare, but still,

How rare would you consider a 07 E92 335i jet black with coral red interior, aluminum trim, m sport and cold weather package, 6MT, logic7 no nav. Was a custom order car and imo has all the desirable features without anything to become seriously outdated or add substantial weight.

I dunno, when it comes to e91s, I have seen more Sport/M-Sport RWD 6spds than RWD 6spds without one of those options. Or maybe those of us with the comfortable RWD stick wagons are just less likely to sell them.

But I have never bothered to have that guy look up how rare my car's option combination actually is. Other than *very*. Because I am the wierdo that ordered it that way.

It sounds like an enthusiasts car but probably not too desirable since it’s the first year of coupes for the model.
